Full Metal Jacket begins by following the trials and tribulations of a platoon of fresh Marine Corps recruits focusing on the relationship between Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Privates Pyle and Joker. We see Pyle grow into an instrument of death as Hartman has foreseen of all of his recruits. Through Pyle's torment and Joker's unwillingness to stand up against it the climax of part one is achieved with all three main characters deciding their fates by their action or inaction.

The second chapter of Full Metal Jacket delves into Joker's psyche and the repeated referral to the fact that he joined the Corps to become a killer. When his mostly behind the scenes job as a combat correspondent is interfered with by the Tet offensive he is thrust into real combat and ultimately must choose if he really is a killer.
  • Commentary by Adam Baldwin, Vincent D'Onofrio, R. Lee Ermey & Jay Cocks
  • Featurette - Full Metal Jacket, Between Good & Evil
  • Theatrical Trailer

Blu Ray but no really HD

Like a lot of older films you would expect this masterpiece to be touched up and looking luss on your 1080p setup (blade runner etc) but no this is a bad port with little work done from teh DVD version. Not worth owning if you ask me...

 Wonderful Movie & DVD.

Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam drama was a late addition to the genre (several years after classic Apocalypse Now and a year later then Platoon) but it soon developed into a classic.

Like all Kubrick movies its exceptionally well made and looks gorgeous on this Blu-Ray transfer. The extras are also pretty amazing.

A fantastic treat of a movie finally on a high quality format deserving of a Stanley Kubrick movie.

Good film let down by a poor Blu Ray

We all know this film is great, a classic... That was never in question but what really annoyed me about this movie was the poor transition to Blu Ray. The dark and night scenes are really poor with artifacts showing up all over the place. sound is ok but again, dont buy this movie expecting to be blown away with the visuals... A great example of what can be done with image restoration can be seen in the Starwars movies on DVD and soon Blu Ray... Sorry guys but you missed a big trick with this one

 Genius!

When I first watched this many years ago I loved this film. Its more about the process of men getting to war than war itself.

Its an amazing transfer and really bring Stanley Kubrick's image of the film to a format that has finally done it justice.
