Great film, not a huge improvement to blu-ray, but a decent enough upgrade for not a lot of money. Nice wide screen picture with no issues to shout about.

  Class without a glass!

This film is a great transfer, miles ahead of standard DVD. The film itself, well I actually hate war films and westerns, but this film is one of the exceptions, probably because it was directed by Stanley Kubrik and the drill instructor is hilarious, I really love this film, it has some underated actors in it too like Mathew Modine, and a very young Vincent D'Onofrio (men in black). This is great in entertainment values, I highly recommend this especially if you haven't seen it. I suppose the question really is, is it worth upgrading from standard DVD to this blu ray? "SIR, YES I WOULD SAY IT IS, SIR!"
But I noticed anther person has said about Blade Runner etc, but there was a big job done on Blade Runner (By the Director) it was remastered frame by frame by Ridley Scott, and this film here full metal Jacket, does not say that it is, so I have no idea why some people expect every blu ray release to be like that, this is Full metal Jacket transformed to Blu Ray, it does not say anywhere that it has been remastered frame by frame by the director so I have no idea why some people expect that when they buy an old film on blu ray, but it is still a vast improvement to the standard DVD..

Fantastic War drama. Set in vietnam with the starting point as boot camp. Follow the storey of Private Joker played excellently by Mathew Modine. After months of training they are shipped off to vietnam to fight in the war. With Joker being the army Journalist, see through his eyes the brutal encounters with Vietcongs and the shell shocking feeling it leaves on him and his platoon. Brilliantly directed by Stanley Kubrick with an excellent cast it is a must own film.

one of the best war films ever made. if you've seen it you already know that & if not, treat yourself. the blu-ray transfer is wonderful, coulors are vibrant and it looks amazing concidering its age... great film.

Good film let down by a poor Blu Ray

We all know this film is great, a classic... That was never in question but what really annoyed me about this movie was the poor transition to Blu Ray. The dark and night scenes are really poor with artifacts showing up all over the place. sound is ok but again, dont buy this movie expecting to be blown away with the visuals... A great example of what can be done with image restoration can be seen in the Starwars movies on DVD and soon Blu Ray... Sorry guys but you missed a big trick with this one

One of the best war movies made

This is one of the best war movies ever made, and it is perfectly split in two with the training first and the war secondly. The brilliance is showing the futility of war through the eyes of a soldier.

This film is a work of genius and is a worthwhile purchase for war film fans! This film should be included on anyone's 50 films to see before you die, it is a piece of cinematic history.
