This film is a masterclass of animation. The story is good and the characters well crafted. I applaud and bow to the film makers for giving us some characters that have grey moral areas, very brave for hollywood, but they pulled it off well. The backdrop of action is also unique and fun to watch. This is however not a kids film, it makes the texas chainsaw massacre or Aliens look like a cuddly episode of the Care Bears. There were children actually crying in the cinema when I watched this film, I kid you not. Do not show this to youngsters as the adult themes that are pivotal to the plot will ellude them and they will only be able to take away beautiful experiences like violence, gore, debauchery, drunken vikings and some more disturbingly sticky and gushing gore.

Please note that the Europe release of Beowulf is missing extras that are in the US version. I have a region free player and will purchase the US release instead of this.

What can I say about this film? I've seen it 3 times and I've reviewed it three times. It's got me through a lot of difficulties with its' courageous nature and deep storyline. I saw it first in the cinema which was fantastic. Then I saw it on DVD, not so good. Then I got a good TV and a PS3 and watched it on Blu Ray. The result? I think you can tell. I'm so sick of all the One sentence reviews this film gets. People can't get over the fact that it is animated. Grow Up! Everyone watches Futurama and Family Guy and they're both animated. "Beowulf id rubbush m8" drives me mad so please just stop. The film is a metaphor for life. It all comes down to temptation. So if you don't get it, don't come on here and moan about it because it's pathetic. Furthermore, this film has a cast to die for. Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins......the list goes on. Seriously, Watch it. Heres an interesting fact, by the way. Did you know the director of Beowulf also directed Back to the Future 1,2 and 3 but Spielberg got all the credit?

It's films like Beowulf that Blu-Ray was made for and this is a great example to use when showing off your system. The picture quality is possibly the best I've seen so far. The crispness of the visuals is astonishing. The smallest of details... the hairs on Angelina's back... individual drips of water... flickering flames... all incredible.

The movie received mixed reactions from critics & audiences but the story is solid. Stick with it and enjoy the ride. However, as a previous reviewer has said, it is quite gruesome in places so show to the little ones with caution. It's animated, yes, but that doesn't mean they won't be scared!

 Enjoyable film with breathtaking picture!

First off I would like to say that I enjoyed Beowulf immensely at the cinema. Not the greatest film in the world but great fun if you take it for what it takes itself to be. I took something of a last minute punt on going to see it in IMAX 3D and it was simply jaw dropping and points to a very promising future for immersive 3D cinema experiences to come from the likes of Peter Jackson and James Cameron. So I went on the recommendation of others to buy it as my first ever Blu Ray purchase and was very happy with it indeed.

If you are looking for something to show off your full HD set then you really don't have to look any further and it will have friends are relatives eating those cynical, HD wont give me anything DVD wont, words before the time the WB logo has left the screen! And I mean that literally. I know it's only the logo but the level of sharpness and richness of colour absolutely beggers belief and it seems to be coming off of the screen at you. And in many ways Beowulf still seems like that 3D experience as the sense of weight and 3dimensionality is so convincing.

I though the IMAX image was stunningly crisp and this BD release easily impresses as much if not more. Every pour, drop of moisture and hair is visible in absolute clarity. And the subtle prisms of light in the wake of the dragons ocean spray really is all the proof you need to convince of the amazing images that BD is capable of.
