I watched this movie on sky box office HD And wow it had me on the edge of my seat, it was also scary and really creepy. If you into vampires films then buy this, the price is well worth it, i have just order this on dvd blu-ray to add to my blu-ray collections, this was a brilliant horror movie.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars good horror film but certainly flawed

This was a blind purchase for me. Yes it is certainly gory and a must for all zombie and gore genre fans. In fact, it is even quite relentless in certain places. The acting is certainly adequate but nothing more.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Horrific but terrific.

Number 1 DVD Reviewer

Slade's movie actually improves on the cinema release with the blu-ray format. The visuals are beautifully drawn so that we are in a living, breathing, graphic novel. This adds to the urelenting grip of sheer terror Slade conjures up when the vampires finally descend on the unsuspecting population of Barrow.
There truly is no hope, no escape, and no reasoning when they attack. In fact 30 Days of Night is more akin to Schindlers List or The Pianist than to other horror films-and all the more frightening for it. The lead vampire even invokes some of the language of the Final Solution when he refers to humanity as a "plague" before brutally killing another victim. The overhead tracking shot peering down on the slaughter is reminiscent of the clearing of the ghetto in Schindlers List, the hiding in the attic evokes Anne Frank evading the S.S.
The vampires are so lethal, so uncompromising, that Slade has upped the game for any vampire film that comes after 30 Days. There isn't much humour and no character is safe from their evil. They could even be the dead souls of S.S. extermination squads; their language seems faintly Germanic and they make use of human traitors to undermine their victims. Whatever they are they will stay in your memory for some time to come.

Very different to many of the vampire films I have seen in the past. This has a good feel of suspense all of the way through and the vampires are really good. Not your usual stake through the heart, garlic round your neck vampire film but an excellent suspense thriller with some excellent gory scenes 'a la' Saw or Hostel if your into that sort of thing.
Try it, you wont be dissapointed

Oh wow, finally a really good vampire film that really cuts the mustard!! Josh Hartnett is awesome as the protective sheriff trying to hold the town together, and the vampires look amazing!! Not explicitly gory but still plenty of the red stuff. Great setting, great story, great film - a must have for pretty much anybody!!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Miles better than I Am Legend!

Thoroughly enjoyed this sleeper hit, which totally missed my attention when it was released in the cinema. And it's actually all the better for it! It was a pleasant surprise to see another take on the vampire theme, with the town of Barrow in Alaska being devoured in a month of total darkness.

Strangely reminded me of John Carpenter's "The Thing" in parts, with it's icy isolated and paranoid atmosphere, er, but with vampires instead of a shape shifting alien!
Surprisingly brutal in parts, a vampire torture of a hapless couple in particular still gives me the creeps, and also the first film of a planned trilogy I believe. The graphic novel spawned two sequels. Can't wait!

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars 30 Days of Night, Not Great, But Not Bad Either...

Having seen the trailers, this promised to be something very special. A few very memorable scenes such as the little girl in the store, and the sequence where the trencher is driven through the streets of Barrow at the end. Convincing performances from Danny Huston as the head vampire and Ben Foster as the 'stranger'. However, the film lacked pace. Took too long to get going, and once the first spate of attacks had taken place on mass, there was little left to keep you entertained for the rest of the film. Stylistically very close to the graphic novels, but left me wanting more from the live action version. A good evenings entertainment, but don't expect to be cowering behind your cushions. Save some cash and buy the DVD, the film has been monochromatically filtered for eerie effect which works well for the visual theme of the film, but doesn't lend itself that well to the high definition format, which thrives on depth of colours.

Enjoyable vampire film, and for once they've kept close to the graphic novel.

Watched this last night after Sony announced Firmware Upgrade 2:30 for the PS3 on the 15th April so was able to not only watch this fantastic transfer to blu-ray in all its glory, but also hear it in the highest & best possible sound format available DTS-HD Master Audio - which the PS3 now supports.
Love anything to do with Vampires & this is a new & original take on an old story. Josh Hartnett is great as are the rest of the cast. Clever story, great SX, superb PQ considering it is mainly filmed at night. Blacks are spot on and detail perfect. This is perfectly poised for a sequel...? Great ending too...despite what you may have read or heard. Put your brain on hold, forgive the lapses in 'time differential'...its supposed to be over 30 days...but hey its fun. Highly recommended!

I got this yesterday and have watched it twice already. Is it the best Vampire movie ever? well that all depends on what you want from a vampire movie, do you want comedy if so get lost boys, do you want a wierd sort of romance if so get bram stokers.
But if you want a vampire movie where the vampires are pure evil and the victims are petrified for their lives then get this...plenty of blood and gore in my opinion THE best vampire movie to date and very very under-rated. Excellent addition to anyones Blu Ray collection.
