A decent film but not great...

I bought this on 3D after reading the reviews and for a 3D Blu-ray under 10 pounds I thought what the hell. The action scenes and special effects are really good the way it cuts to slow-mo really brings out how graphic the action is, but that's about as good as it gets. The stories a bit weak the way they've introduced mutants I thought was a little bit ....X Men....The 3D is nothing special either, Avatar and Silent Hill Revelation are still the best films I've seen for the 3D experience. The main antagonist in this film played by Lena Headey who plays Queen Gorgo in 300 is really cold and lifeless in terms of her character but because that's the sort of performance Carl Urban also gives as Dredd it just makes the whole film seem dead and lifeless. If your going to have an emotionless protagonist then you really need to have a loony toon antagonist to balance the whole thing out, like Batman, he's a bit bland and boring where as the Joker or Bane are complete loony toons which make a really good balance, in this they simply cancel each other out, 1 as boring as the other. The other bad guys are simply morons you wouldn't trust with a potato gun, they run around the corners when they should peer around to see whats there first, they all bunch together when they should spread out, they practically all have big signs on saying we're here, shoot us. All in all this 3D blu-ray is worth 10 pounds and does entertain but it's not a film I'm likely to watch over and over again nor is it ever likely to win any awards and personally I think is only better than the original because of the advancements in modern day special effects...

BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

This film truly was my favourite film of not only 2012 but the last few years. Like many other reviewers have said, its dark, gritty and the performances are superb. The soundtrack also drives along with equal dirtiness.
The 3D was some of the best I've seen in a film especially the slo-mo. scenes which were visually stunning.
It failed at the box office because it was not a "Hollywood" film and it also had a terrible add campaign. The theatre trailer did it no justice but was improved with the DVD trailer.
Everyone wants, NEEDS a sequel to this, so once you see it tell your friends to buy it. Unfortunately it will be hard for a decent sequel to be green lit off the back of DVD/blue ray sales alone, so if your friends with Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg then please ask them to give a few hundred million of their loose change to get one going.

It's a shame this did so badly at the box office. It's brilliant. A real quality mature comic book adaptation. Visually amazing and the setting and vibe of megacity 1 is perfect. BUY IT! then we might get a sequel ; )

  Great movie

Saw this in the cinema and had to buy it on DVD. Karl Urban plays Dredd perfectly and the action is great.

The movie is good in both 2D and 3D, saw it in the cinema in 3D (only used for a couple of scenes - and used well) and watched it in 2D on the DVD. I would highly recommend this for anybodies DVD collection.

Sadly the movie it didn't get much publicity in the movies, fingers crossed they manage to do a sequel!

  very good.

To be honest,i didnt really mind Stallones efforts,i thought his was an 'ok' Dredd, so i was a bit hesitant about watching this - glad i did! No pointless character build up to take up most of the film, (we all know who Dredd is,and what he is about), so we are dropped straight into the action.Good, solid story, solid characters, great action (and a bit of gore thrown in for good measure).A very 80's/mad max feel to it.All in all, excellent!

a bit bland, not much really happens, all self contained in a tower block

exceptionally basic story line and action. the world they created was superb but we didnt get to see much of it

missed a great opportunity, i wish it had been much better

  Better Than Expected

Not having seen many reviews for this version, I thought it may not be much good. How wrong I was.
For me, this film was far better than the Stallone versions of years gone by. No overdoing it on the effects front and the portrayal of Mega City One was more believable than the Stallone version. Good story line, good acting. All in all the "Bees Knees". Bring on a sequel and keep it in the same vein as Dredd 2012.

  I judge this movie.

I wasn't truly feeling this.I understand the 2000AD comic had more of an adult vibe thus being more dark, gritty and serious, which is carried over very well, but it feel's like it's way too serious - like other comic-book based movies of late.
The other thing is Karl Urban's uniform, it looked too big for him, even the helmet.
I dunno but I think I prefer the Stallone version. I'm not saying it's at all bad, but it's not great.
