Seen this film twice now and I enjoy it more each time. Just a joy to see a well made film, none of the stupid pointless wavy camera style so prevalent in many films today. Haven't read this book yet, but the question you have to ask is was it a good film? and the answer is an unqualified yes!!! During the action scenes you can actually see what's going on. Director's of films like the Bourne series should take note of how to film action scenes. What's the point if the viewer can't follow what's happening because the camera is jerking around?

When will this guy learn to act? Definitely the worst film I have bought this year - and there has been some real rubbish

I'll be honest I have never read the books, but aware that the fans of the book complained that the written character is 6' 5" and Tom Cruise is about 3' 4" but that doesn't matter at all to me. The thing about this film is that it doesn't rely on action as it's the plot a that drives the film. Sure the plot is nothing we havn't seen before but it's all about exacusion speaking of which the opening scenes is very unsettling as the assassin picks his targets. It's Cruise's film and he is again brilliant, as he figures out that there is more to the lone gun man case. His sarcasm is very funny and the scene where he takes down five guys is a highlight, not to mention a thrilling car chase. The problem is there is so much good stuff that happens in the movie that the climax is a bit of a let down, I'm not saying it's bad as it wraps thing up, but we have seen this kind of shoot out too many times. But seeing Robert Duvall as a old school sniper is a treat.
As I said before I have not read the books, but after seeing this I know what I'll be reading on holiday.
See if you like......
The last Boy Scout.
Lethal Weapon 1 and 2.
Mission Impossible 1 - 4.
The Firm (1993 )
The Way Of The Gun.
The Lincoln Lawyer.

People are always going to compare a movie to the book which inspired the storyline. Don't let the reviews who use this comparison to tell you that this is a bad film! Because it's not.... in fact Its one I could easily watch again. The storyline is decent, there is plenty of action and regardless of some people's opinions of Tom Cruise he puts in a decent performance as well as some of the supporting actors and actresses. Watch it and make up your own mind.

  Flat and lifeless thriller.

I've never read any of the Lee Childs novels on which this film is based so while I was aware of some fan issues around the casting of Tom Cruise as the titular Jack Reacher my review is purely based on the film itself.

When a public shooting that kills five people seems to be an open and shut case for prosecutors who find their perpetrator quickly and conclusively they are surprised when under questioning the only thing he asks of them is to 'Get Jack Reacher'. But who is Jack Reacher? Turns out he's ex military and living off the grid but who already knows just where to turn up when wanted! So begins an investigation that soon makes everyone realise this case is far from open and shut...............

The main problem I found with the film was a surprisingly one dimensional performance (based on, in fairness, a thinly written character where depth is supposedly inferred from his extensive abilities and almost nothing else) from Tom Cruise and a plot that whil not especially complicated is nonetheless quite dull actually. In fact, dull is the best word to describe the film overall as it ambles in no particular hurry to a conclusion designed to set up a franchise for Cruise that might help him out when he becomes too old for Mission: Impossible. Except I don't think I'd be bothered if I never saw the character again on film.

Certainly, it did not do a lot for me.

  Awful

Basically a mash-up of other film plots, badly done, terribly written, horribly directed and starring a tiny, over-paid scientologist. My favourite bit was the end credits as I could eject the disc and never look at it again.

Jack Reacher - get over the height thing!

| | See all jezzasmith's reviews (1)

Every review I have read for this goes on about Tom's height v Jack in the books (see even I've done it) Ignore this and enjoy a remarkably good no nonsense thriller.
