Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and featuring an award-winning cast, Jamie Foxx stars as Django a slave who teams up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) to seek out the South's most wanted criminals with the promise of Django's freedom. Honing vital hunting skills, his one goal is to find and rescue the wife (Kerry Washington) he lost to the slave trade long ago. When their search ultimately leads to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the infamous and brutal proprietor of "Candyland", they arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Now their moves are marked and Candie's treacherous organisation closes in on them.

 Good, not great

Firstly, let me say that Tarantino should never, ever act. Especially when putting on some weird accent. This film is ok, it has some laughs and some excellent acting from Christoph waltz. The story is unbelievable in the true sense of the word. The shooting scenes were far too bloody to be real and the movie was very "Hollywood" , not gritty like Deadwood. Overall it was ok, I just expect better from Tarantino.

a perfect tarantino take on the american western

ok so i wasn't too hyped up about this movie. i didn't jump at the chance to see it at the cinema or anything like that but now that i've watched it im glad i did. this film is brimming with talent from jamie fox who does a fantastic job as the lead. christoph waltz as doctor schultz, leonardo dicaprio as the nasty calvin candie, and sam jackson as the unexpected antagonist old stephen.

all of these actors do a fantastic job and they are well backed up by a brilliant story and some great action. the violence here is next-level and in tarantino style it is sparse but OTT brilliant when it happens.

i will give this film a 9/10, falling just short of brilliance due to its excessive length, and tarantino's awful cameo.

Firstly don't expect this to be a realistic portraiyl of the frontier days. This film is not supposed to be. But if you are a fan of Tarrantino you'll know what to expect, after all he's the guy who re-wrote history and killed Hitler in his previous Inglorious Basterds. Django is one of the most enjoyable films of last year, it's so over the top, so full of smart and funny dialogue and crazy situations and characters it's impossible not to be swept along with it all. Foxx is the first word in cool, DiCaprio is just plain nasty, Jackson is even worse with his motivations. But just like Inglorious Basterds it's Christoph Walz who steals every scene with his precise punctuation. The film is long and maybe a little too long, but with so many brilliant characters it never outstays it's welcome. If you are offened by the "N" word this may not be for you, but it's said in such a manner it's not intended to offend. It's comic book violence spills more blood than the Wildbunch, the soundtrack is awesome and Django is possibly Tarrantino's most enjoyable film to date.
