Evil Dead, the highly anticipated reboot of Sam Raimi's 1981 cult-hit horror film The Evil Dead, is produced by the original team of Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi (Spider Man 3), and Bruce Campbell (Spider Man 3), and features a fresh young cast. Evil Dead is a bone-chilling film that combines all the raw excitement and gleeful gore of the acclaimed original with a series of shocking new twists.

A remote cabin in the woods becomes a blood-soaked chamber of horrors when a group of 20-something friends unwittingly awakens an ancient demon in Evil Dead. Mia (Jane Levy), a young woman whose life has been marred by loss and addiction, asks her brother David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their childhood friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to join her at the family's rustic cabin to help her overcome her demons. Once there, she ceremoniously destroys the last of her stash and swears off drugs for good in front of her friends. Inside, they are shocked to discover that the abandoned cabin has been broken into. The cellar has been transformed into a grotesque altar surrounded by dozens of mummified animals. Eric becomes fascinated with an ancient book he discovers there. In thrall to its mysterious contents, he reads aloud from it, never suspecting the terrifying consequences he is about to unleash.

Most remakes are greeted with dread, but once in a while a remake gets made that the fans of the original are eager to see and this remake is one. Things have changed in the version, gone is the comedy and a much darker tone settles in and with it a slow build up. The thing that this update does well is the build up, the woods are really menacingly shot as dark shadows hang over the lodge. Some of the quick flash images unsettle as it hints at what we are wanting to happen and when they do some of the old school effects are brilliant, as the cast slowly start to become possessed and disfigure themselves to startling effects, faces get slashed, skulls get stoved, tongues get slices and limbs get severed, not to mention a nail gun attack. Also a nice rug-pull of you expect who will survive is a good addition to the formular. But there are a few niggles, The back story opening is unneeded, the characters are poorly written ( a fault with the original ) so you don't care who survives and the demon smack down at the end is a little under-whelming. But it's the bloody onslaught that counts and this does deliver by the bucket loads.A few niggles a side this should give most fans what they were wanting and please new fans to give us a sequel.

a remake or a reboot. just imagine its another story set in the same word of the original... its a fantastic story a great set up! fans of the original have their opinions but if you have heard of it and love horror then this is for you! its definitely a film that grips you and doesn't hold up until the end.... cant wait to own it!
