On April 20th 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of Queen, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, which the band had organised to pay tribute to their former colleague - the incomparable Freddie Mercury. Queen were joined by some of the greatest musical talent in the world to celebrate Freddie's life and work and to increase public awareness of AIDS, the disease that had prematurely ended his life the previous year. As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. Now for the first time both halves of the concert are being made available on SD-Blu-ray along with additional bonus material in this special edition release.

 blu ray with vhs quality

I don't mind the 4:3 format as this is the format it was shot in, and I rather have the original format than a re-seied to 16:9 one (as with queens videoclips dvd's).
On the plus side, the show now contains the warming up show, the extreme medley, metallica etc. But alas, it's still not the complete show, robert plant and some others are left out. Picture quality is the old vhs-tape upgraded to 1080. It looks better than the 'old' dvd, but quality is still nothing compared to a blu ray quality. Even upscaled and even better than before, long audience shots are still blurry. But as said, it's better and perhaps the best it'll ever be. Sound is good and due to beeing it a BD there is not much compression.

A superb concert, BUT if you buy this bear in mind that the bluray is in 4.3
format which has thick black bars up both sides of the screen, it is NOT widescreen and I cannot for the life of me change it, be it played in standalone player or computer..It's gone in the bin.

 don't buy !

well , i do understand that it's not possible to upgrade the vision quality to the present blu-ray standerd, but really, what a disapointment. when i taped the concert life on video ,the sound and vision where even better than this, please if one puts a blu-ray label on a disc, let it be at least better than my video. (i'm glad i cept my videotape after all those years). and one more thing, the concert is far from complete !

 Disappointing!!

Having had the dvd for a lot of years, and enjoyed the splendid concert, I was really excited about this release. BUT what is the point having a bluray in vhs quality??? In my opinion, I should have a refund...KEEP AWAY all you bluray fans. This is a sheer disappointment!
