Be afraid. Be very afraid...

This frightening, but extremely moving and romantic horror film stars Jeff Goldblum as an over-ambitious scientist who accidentally merges with a housefly while conducting a bizarre teleporting experiment. A journalist (Geena Davis) who has fallen in love with him while covering his scientific endeavours, suddenly finds herself caring for a horrific creature whose insect half gradually begins to take over.

This is one of those rare horror gems, an excellent film full of really gross out moments and gore, and at the same time a smart story with an eccentric performance by jeff goldblum which is great. Worth the money at any cost!

 A Grotesque, Frightening Romantic Drama.

The Fly (1986) is a horror remake starring Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis and John Getz. Its a stomach churning grotesque movie which is also a dark drama about a doomed romance.

The plot revolves around scientist Seth Brundle (Goldblum) who invents a transporter. Eager to prove his experiment he transports himself but is unaware that a fly has got into the machine with him. Slowly he then begins to transform into a giant fly/human hybrid.

Jeff Goldblum is amazing in this movie. He uses his size and physicality to great effect. Goldblum is also very creepy with his ticks and fly-like behaviour. Geena Davis (who was actually Goldblum's real-life girlfriend at the time) also gives a great performance as a woman forced to watch her lover fall apart.

Director David Cronenberg (A History Of Violence) treats this movie as a tragic romance. On one hand its a horror about a monster but on the other its a drama about a brilliant man being destroyed both physically and mentally. Cronenberg also delights in the gross special effects. Everything in this movie is sticky, disgusting or plain terrifying.

The Fly is a dark and disturbing movie. It was Cronenberg's biggest box-office hit and a career high for Goldblum. But be warned its not for the squeamish.

The Blu-Ray DVD looks really good and sounds great. In fact its fair to say that the picture is so clear that it makes some of the special effects look a little dated. There's a wonderful feature length documentary going into detail about how the movie was made and a very informative commentary from Cronenberg.

 A great movie

This is a great remake of a classic.
It's not at all "over-rated".

It's just a brilliant horror movie.
