fantastic this is how the movie should look

As the movie was shot on low grade film stock in the 1980's this is the best it will look, ok plenty grain (and so there should be its inherent in the film.) nice detail and this is how predator is meant to look, the hunter edition removes the grain, at the expense of skin texture and a lot of fine detail (completely removing the point of the HD experience), buy the predator 1&2 pack to get this decent version.

  Awesome Film - Awful Picture

I remember when this film first came out. I had it on pirate video as I was too young to watch it at the cinema and I was hooked.
20+ years on and I still love this film, so when it came out on Blu-Ray I had to get it.....
I was so annoyed..... The picture is no different to watching it on DVD. Its grainy in places and just doesn't have the sharpness of other Blu-Rays I have. The other review who says the picture is perfect and that I have a 720 tv and not at 1080p tv is talking nonsense. I have a 1080p Sony Bravia and other Blu-Rays look perfect on it.
On the plus side the sound is great.
I understand that the Hunter Edition is a much better transfer to Blu Ray, but haven't personally watched it... I would check that out first and stay away from this..

First things first. Arnie + Silvestri + Stan Winston = Awesome. The film is a classic NO question. The transfer is shocking though, there're scenes where there's some nice detail, but all you have to do is watch the sequence when he falls into the water to feel ripped off. I cant help but feel a little cheated. I only gave it 3 stars on the films merits.

Better than I thought but still a shame

After nearly having a heart attack as the FOX logo came up and it looked just for a second like a VHS copy, I have to report that this Blu Ray IS better than DVD, but suffers from inconsistant mastering, mostly from the source film I suspect. Some shots are really clear, others not so much. I hear bad things about the new transfer version and am happy that I got this one before its out of print. No extras a shame though!

this transfer to blu-ray is excellent. having read negative notes i wonder if some among us have 720P tellies and not 1080P tv's. believe me the difference is awsome. buy, beg, borrow or steal this movie, you won't be disappointed.

  why the negative reviews???????

Basicly theres no contest between this and its dvd counterpart as the blu-ray transfer kicks it out of the water,i also own the dvd version of this and can honestly say the dvd is very poor compared to the blu-ray version,i have watched them both side by side on toshiba 1080i 32" hd tv's and this blu-ray edition is fantastic i have been put off from buying this for a while due to all the bad reviews, the color and jungle scenery are fantastic i honestly cannot accept this has had bad reviews,if you love predator then buy this as you need it in your collection a very good retro movie transfer.

Firstly I am only reviewing the Blu-Ray transfer here Predator is one of my all time favourite films and I was very excited to see the transfer but after watching this shambles of a transfer im wishing I had stuck with my definitive DVD edition.
The picture is very grainy throughout the film and the sound quality is not as good as the 5.1 DTS DVD edition that is available much cheaper.
In closing the film is brilliant but Fox have made a right mess of this transfer and we can only hope with the release of the new film this summer hopefully we can get an ultimate edition of this film on Blu-Ray soon my advice stick with your DVD copy or buy it on DVD and save your money for Predator 2 on Blu-Ray which is an excellent transfer by the way.

  Predator (Blue- Ray)

Not worth the money, the quality is the same as any other D.V.D and is certainly not as it should be.The begining is so grainy and disapointing. So wait until they get it right before buying.

  Simply a Classic, but.....

Ok, let me start by saying that I am a big Predator fan and this is one of my favourite films. Like most people on here I owned the film on VHS and then DVD. This was one of my first purchases on Blu Ray and I was very excited. I have to say that the picture quality is no better than on DVD. It is really grainy and the conversion is very poor to Blu Ray. If you own this film on DVD and were thinking of buying it on Blu Ray DON'T! It really will be a waste of money.

  No Extras....

Picture quality & sound little different than a dvd + no extras (i thought this was supposed-to be one of this format's big advantages) - good film but what a dissapointment - save the money, get the dvd....
