Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is the 6th collaboration between Director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, it is also the 5th time Burton has worked with Helena Bohnam Carter. Both Depp and HBC take to their respective roles of Todd and Mrs. Lovett perfectly, as they are no stranger to playing the dark roles required of them. The big names making up the rest of the cast are made up of the always brilliant Alan Rickman as Judge Turpin, Timothy Spall as Beadle Banford and Sacha Baron Cohen as Pirelli.

The film itself I think is excellent, a little shocked on first viewing that it is 90% singing, but it is a musical of course. 95% of the songs from the Sondheim musical make it into the film, the higlights for me being "Little Priest", "Pirelli's Miracle Elixir", "Epiphany" and "Johanna" (Todd/Anthony).

The Quality of the Blu Ray is pretty flawless, the picture looks crisp and fresh, a very good transfer, the music sounds brilliant with 5.1 surround sound but the other option is TrueHD which to me sounds exactly the same as the 5.1, not sure what the difference is.

My Blu Ray came in very nice steelbook packaging. The extras are the same as on the 2 Disc special Edition DVD, there is NO commentary from Tim Burton as advertised on play.com however.
What we do get is a good list of informative featurettes on the films production and a look at the real history of Sweeney Todd as well as some of the usual promotional material, all of the main cast, crew and even Stephen Sondheim contribute to the supplemental material. Overall it's a must buy for fans of Burton, one of his best looking , enjoyable and well crafted movies, as a Blu Ray it has definately earned it's place in my collection, offering both great audio and visual, just as Blu Ray should.

The film is great. Dark, violent, great music, great acting, perfectly casted characters, one of Burton's best.

This is one of the better looking blu ray discs, a lot of the film is spent close up on the actors faces while they sing, focusing on the subtle expressions that depp shows.

You can see vengeance in his every look.

With the camera often closing in on faces, you can see the great detail blu ray offers, facial hair and details on the skin are clearly visible.

I cant comment too much on the sound as I don't have surround sound, but it sounds as good as/better than the dvd on standard speakers.

A film well worth the HD upgrade.

I like the occasional musical but I love Tim Burton and this definately didn't dissapoint, its great to see Tim Burton back on form with some truly stunning imaginary , a great story all told out with a brilliant cast.
On Blu Ray this is a stunning package, the picture although mostly very dark is a stunning transfer that just looks beautiful with a very effective TrueHD soundtrack, I'll definately be watching this again.

Anyway, being a huge Tim Burton fan myself I was captivated with his blood-spattering treat 'Sweeney Todd'; A film that soon placed itself firmly in my favourite Burton-flick spot.
Not only is this timeless story supported by very strong performances from Depp and The cast (yes, I even enjoyed the singing; got the soundtrack too), I was able to sit back and bask in Burton's beautifully noir vision of Victorian London. And as for the blu-ray, the picture and sound are once more; superb.

Fantastic film and great picture on Blu-Ray, however - don't be fooled with the "Steel Book" description, Play.com dissapointingly sent me a regular case.

I don't quite understand the people criticising this film simply because it's a musical - what did they expect?

Sweeney Todd is a breath of fresh air, mixing horror with music and dark humour to create a truly unique musical movie. Top performances all around make this a must-own.

The Blu-ray itself is very nicely presented and features almost 45 minutes of bonus features that are missing from the standard DVD release. So. definitely worth opting for the Blu.

Certainly not tim burtons best but beautiful to behold and quirky.

Can everyone stop critisizing it for being a musical? its based on a musical so what do you expect?

worth a watch, just make sure you don't mind blood and lots of it.

After much debate (whilst watching the film) our family settled on 2 stars. It wasn't quite what we were expecting and the singing was a bit of a suprise. its the first horror-musical we've seen and it makes for an interesting combination. the film would be just awful if it wasn't for the superb acting of the two main characters but we did wish they would stop singing.
From a BLU-RAY point of view, the visual effects and HD sound is superb.
Worth watching if you have low expectataions.
