The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first in Peter Jackson's highly anticipated trilogy adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome Dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the Wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild, through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins, Orcs and deadly Wargs, as well as a mysterious and sinister figure known only as the Necromancer.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the Goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him; he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities...A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

This is a great buy if you want an "ultimate blu-ray version" of the extended first instalment of The Hobbit. However there are two things that are misleading from this posting.

Firstly, there is no DVD version within this box. I can only assume that the "with DVD" means that you are able to download the file version via the UltraViolet copy and then burn it to disk. However the leaflet inside gives no indication that you have the rights to the file, so this is just an assumption. Either way the only DVD version you will end up with will be something you'll have to make yourself.

Secondly, the case itself is much thicker than it looks in the picture. I was a bit surprised when i saw the picture initially that they managed to fit 5 disks in to a case that looks like normal singular case, but its probably more like an inch thick than what is on the picture here.

Dont be put off buy these two things though. You still get the 3D bluray and the 2D bluray versions, plus two appendices. The quality of the disks are awesome and with the steel case, it's still well worth the money.
