Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating, Derby-topped teddy-boy hooligan Alex (Malcolm McDowell) has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others.

Alex's journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick's future-shook vision of Anthony Burgess's novel. Unforgettable images, startling musical counterpoints, the fascinating language used by Alex and his pals - Kubrick shapes them into a shattering whole.

Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971) is a daring and controversial satire on violence. Malcolm McDowell gives a career best performance as Alex, the anti-hero who lives for ultra-violence and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Blu-Ray transfer looks fantastic and the special features are very impressive. McDowell gives a great commentary and there are also a couple of interesting documentaries.

A masterpiece and highly influential movie.

Years after its release and Stanley Kubrick's lacerating study of a society breaking apart seems even more pertinent than ever. Malcolm McDowell is pure electricity as Alex de Large, a nasty violent repellent young man who discovers that the authorities can dole out treatment that's just as vicious as what he's been visiting on members of the public. Although it's grungy and messy, every shot is composed with absolute care and craftsmanship. One of the key films of the 70s that benefits remarkably well from its transfer to high definition.
