  Enjoyable Off-Beat Story

Pretty cool comedy concept, executed reasonably well.
Interesting watch all the way through, with laughs and poignant moments. The Community spirit is well evoked.
The array of supporting characters are very good, Jack Black is funny for a change. Mos Def is average.
Enjoyable, Quirky, Off-Beat, and Feel Good Comedy-Drama

  Poor....

If you've seen the trailer then you've seen the only scenes worth seeing.

I really like Jack Black but this is dire. The sub-plot involving the legendary singer is about as interesting as watching paint dry, and the audience that was dragged to the film by the trailer will have no interest in that side of things.

Basically, watch them re-enact scenes from Ghostbusters and Rush Hour then switch off. Probably the worst film I've seen in the last 5 years.

  Pretty good

This movie is underrated. If you like sweet, funny comedies with heart then I recommend you give this one a try. It's not "laugh-out-loud" funny but it really doesn't need to be. Movies like Juno and Little Miss Sunshine were great in their own way and so is this.
So if you liked the two movies I mentioned earlier then you'll enjoy this aswell :)

  I love Jack Black but....

This is by far his worst movie (and I've seen Nacho Libre!)
A couple of funny bits when they remake the movies (especially the Ghostbusters effort), but on the whole it's pretty dire.
The story is cheesy, the script is lame & the jokes are so few & far between it makes for quite a gruelling watch.

If I could I would have given this 0 stars. It's the only film in a long time that we have stopped watching part way through.
There is some good jokes in the film but it quickly becomes the same jokes running through and the film could be cut down to 30minutes.
This maybe one to watch if your having trouble getting to sleep.

  Unique Poor Comedy

Credit to the idea they came up with for the film (not really an easy task if you consider the release of films such as 'Teeth') however the ideas were poorly executed. As mentioned in a previous review, Jack Black is indeed hit and miss and I found him 'top of the ladder' annoying in this film.

This movie actually reminds me of the film 'Cable Guy'. Now if you found the acts of Jim Carey in that movie tolerable then you may possibly like this film.

  In a word-: 'bland'

I was really looking forward to this film, unfortunately after watching it my over whelming feeling could be summed up as 'was that it?'.
Jack Black can be a bit of a 'Hit or Miss' star, sometimes great sometime just a guy pulling faces, this was the latter with neither Black nor Mos Def seeming able to carry the film. The script seemed to go nowhere, the charactures unengaging and the movie paradies, while providing an occasional chuckle were generally less entertaining than the childrens panto version of Spiderman in the 'Snowpatrol' video.

Technically, the transfer of the film to hi-def is well handled, but a crystal clear unengaging movie is still, an unengaging movie.
