Speed Racer lives for racing. He is a born winner with an aggressive, instinctive, and fearless approach to the track. Having racked up victory after victory behind the wheel of his unstoppable Mach 5 vehicle, he faces the deadliest decision of his life - partner up with a rich mogul cheat for safety or risk his life to save the spirit of his sport and compete in the definitive, death-defying, cross country rally, The Crucible.
The death of his brother, the legendary Rex Racer (Scott Porter), in a mysterious racing accident ten years earlier has urged Speed (Emile Hirsch), the son of car-designer Pops Racer (John Goodman), to carry on his brother's legacy. Speed's own success results in the discovery that some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless sponsors led by the sinister Mr Royalton (Roger Allam). In the knowledge that Royalton will see to it that his Mach 5 will never cross a finishing line again if they do not join forces, Speed's fate hangs in the balance as he decides which path to take.
The Wachowski Brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy, have produced the ultimate live-action adaptation of Tatsuo Yoshida's classic 1960s Japanese anime series Mach Go Go Go in this beautifully shot visual feast that will appeal to the whole family. Full of exciting, brilliantly-conceived races, primary-colour characterisations, and an irresistible sense of fun Speed Racer is an entertaining, superbly directed blockbuster that is unlike anything you have seen before.

An absolute surprise

I saw this playing as a demo *everywhere* in SE Asia recently, so I needed to see why - and I was incredibly surprised. Nicely paced, beautifully set and photographed, and nicely updated but very, very true to the original series. It's surprises you, like watching The Fifth Element for the first time. Silly? Can be, but with a surprising depth to it's moral roots - remain true to your what you love and be honest about it. This is a fabulous film.
Amazing movie, so colourful - a comic book movie

This movie uses an amazing array of colours and the blu-ray justifies the movie. Try testing your TV with this and you will be amazed!
The sound quality is excellent and the whole movie plays out like a comic book.
Wow!

I have to say that this film took me by surprise, I caught it one night on Sky and it blew me away! At first it seemed strange and like a kids film, the chimp initially struck me as weird but the more I watched it the more it made sense and the ending totally sold it for me. I immediately bought it on Blu-ray and the picture and sound are nothing short of exceptional, I can't recommend it enough, the Wachowski's have hit their early Matrix form again, amazing fun!
