Cool Hand Luke: Deluxe Edition (Blu-ray)

While Cool Hand Luke may not the best film of all time, it certainly has to be in the top ten.

Paul Newman himself admitted that the script was the best he had ever read during his entire career and the excellent acting, camera work, direction, and musical accompaniment throughout the film have ensured its position amongst the greatest films ever committed to celluloid.

The film follows the story of Lucas 'Cool hand Luke' Jackson, an immediately likable man who just can't seem to fit in with society. The audience is introduced to Luke just as he is starts a five year sentence in one of America's road prisons and before long it becomes apparent that either Luke or system has to crack. This is a truly moving film as it follows Luke's rise from outcast to hero figure and back again as other inmates feed off of his 'world shaking' ability but turn on him when he breaks.

Having seen this film a hundred or more times over the years I can say without doubt that every single scene in this film is a classic and the truly fantastic performances from Paul Newman, George Kennedy and all the supporting cast will leave you desperate to watch this film again and again and again.

Wonderful classic prison movie about a rebel without a cause coming up against the system in the shape of the Man. Iconic images of mirror sunglasses and the wonderful scene of 50 eggs (seemed like a round number). The transfer is excellent, making the sweaty claustrophobia all the more real.
