Review

Following the non-nuclear war that killed half the world's population, the city-nation of Olympus stands as a beacon of hope in a world of chaos and conflict. The utopian metropolis is governed by Gaia, a vast artificial intelligence, and administered by genetically engineered humanoids known as Bioroids, whose designer DNA suppresses strong emotions. With Bioroids being half of its population, peace and order are easily maintained. Deunan, a young female warrior, and Briareos, a veteran cyborg-soldier, are both partners and lovers. As members of E.S.W.A.T., the elite special forces serving Olympus, they are deployed whenever trouble strikes. The two fighters find their partnership tested in a new way by the arrival of a new member to their ranks - an experimental Bioroid named Tereus. Created by Gaia using DNA from Briareos, Tereus uncannily resembles Briareos before the wartime injuries that led to his becoming a cyborg. Not only does this trouble Deunan, but Briareos's DNA gives Tereus more than top-notch fighting skills; this battle-ready Bioroid is like Briareos in another way - he has also strong romantic feelings for Deunan!

I am a person who nit picks at minor detail but in the case of this Blue Ray anime, as soon as I put this disc into my PS3 to view via my 40" LCD TV I thought, 'wow, top picture quality!'
I enjoyed the movie.
Personally I felt like I had made a good purchase despite the currently high BD prices.

Ok so a lot of people don't like this style of computer generated animation, which is designed to mimic hand drawn art, but I love it.

There is no denying that hand drawn animation has more love to it, but this just looks and feels amazing and the BD picture quality is 5/5 in my opinion and this is one to show off.

Picture quality aside, this sequel is a vast improvement over the first film. The first one was great too, but a bit too confusing. This one actually makes sense and has a well structured story to it.

The action sequences are some of the best i've seen in a film, whether it be the fight scenes or the mechanised suits blowing things up or shooting people.

The only down side is that the english dubbing isnt great in terms of lip syncing, and it was obviously intended for the japanese language, but the sound quality of the voice overs are perfect.

I would rank this very high up in my top ten anime films EVER!

I recently got this on HD-DVD (yes, the dead format) and was blown away by the quality of the animation. The picture is crystal clear and flawless.
If you are a fan of the original Appleseed movie, you won't be disappointed with this follow-up. Sure the story had elements of other sci-fi flicks, but you'll be too awestruck by the quality to really care. Also, you can tell John Woo was involved, as the film has many of his trademarks on it.
The extras were really interesting too, it goes to show how much work is put in, to producing such quality as this.
