For honour...

In 1193B.C. the dandy Trojan prince Paris (Bloom) irresponsibly spirits away the unhappy wife of Menelaus (Gleeson), the Spartan king. Demanding the return of Helen, the Greeks launch a thousand ships and lay siege to Troy. Under the command of Agamemnon (Cox), revered warrior Achilles (Pitt) leads the Greek forces against the Trojan defenders, commanded by Hector (Bana), who carries the fate of his nation on his shoulders...

Excellent blu ray transfer from dvd, a joy to watch

Having now watched the movie in its extended form, i must applaud the quality of the blu ray transfer from dvd. The picture is crystal clear and skin tones perfect. I enjoyed the film a little more watching in hi def. The sound is also great. The only minor flaw is that the extras are in 480p and each one can last something like 2-3 minutes, so looks like theres a lot of extras, but really there is not. Also on my dvd version there was an extra where you could read up on the greek gods and what they represented -this is not on the blu ray.

Overall though the main thing for me is the movie and i am more than please to have double dipped and bought this on bluray.

I would recommend fully.

Hope this review helps.

The Directors Cut really enriches the Troy experience

I have been disappointed in the past by Directors Cut editions of films, they often only add a very small amount of material, and fail to actually add anything of substance to the original film. But Troy is different, it really does benefit from the additions made in the Directors cut. The fight scenes are more bloody and more realistic, the dialogue is less cut-up and you get more in-depth exploration of the characters and story-line. And as if that wasn't enough the romantic scene at the beginning between Helen and Paris is extended with some, huhmmm, nice footage of Helen.

The movie itself is Epic, great Directing, great storyline and great acting. It is definitely one of my favourite films, and the Directors edition made it even better. Its a must have blu-ray!

Ok, I guess i'm about to go against the Popular opinion, but I didn't like this movie.
Don't get me wrong I love a good old Fashioned Epic such as Bravheart, Gladiator. But this just didn't work for me
To be honest I didn't like the look of it from the first trailer, but watched it on recommendation from a few people.
Normally when I don't wanna watch a movie and have low expectations for it, I find that I really end up enjoying it. Not this time.
The story is obviously a good one, and I enjoyed reading it in school, and it should be brilliant on the Big Screen
But the casting of Brad Pitt just didn't work for me. And I'm a big fan of the guy. Excellent Actor.
But here he just seemed to be trying too hard, I could actually see him trying to act. Never a good sign.
But he just came across as a Russell Crowe Gladiator wannabe. And don't even get me started in Orlando Bloom.
The only saving grace was the performances of Eric Bana, Brain Cox and Peter O Toole.
I was watching the 3 hours directors cut and I gave up after 2 hours, and I NEVER give up on a movie.
I'm now gonna have to watch Gladiator, Braveheart and 300 back to back to get this out of my system. Lol

Great film improved by directors cut more action in HD

Troy was a great film now with added action scenes and longer opening scene which all add to an already fantastic film. The Story is an old greek ledgend thats brilliantly directed by Wolfgang Peterson . I prefure this film to Gladiator and can watch it over and over again especially the Hector and Achilles fight the fact that it is on blu-ray makes the film look and sound brilliant. A must buy.

 Excellent Directors cut
