I watched this based on other reviews and to be honest it's just average. There is nothing spectacular or new. I have seen far superior horror movies from Spain. It's worth watching, once.

  A truly great thriller.

I think this movie is an absolute gem and the ending is so unexpected and individual. I wouldn't say this is a horror film, more of a thriller. There are.some good jumpy bits though. I actually liked this more than pans labyrinth.

  A stately scary movie

Best horror film in years, a genuine creepfest as Belen Rueda (magnificent) slowly unravels in the titular establishment following the disappearance of her son. All the indications are that his imaginary friends took him. This is all about atmosphere and foreboding and debut director Juan Antonio Bayona gets it almost unerringly right. An absolutely spanking HD print too.

This is one scary movie, highly recommended, better than any Hollywood production made the last year.

Turn off all the lights, put your children to bed and watch this movie. If you don't get scared then something is terrible wrong with you or your tv set. Great movie.

Guillermo del Toro has done it again!!! this movie is special in its own way as they actually think about how it will end before starting it. Great from start to finish only let down was its subtitled which i usually hate but just couldn't turn it off.
If your expecting to be jumping every 10 minutes dont bother its more interlectual than that its more a ghost story, with the odd scary scene every now and again. A definate one for anybodys collection.
