Another movie in which Kevin Spacey steals every scene he is in. I found this film to be very enjoyable despite a feeling a lag towards the end of the 2nd act which is compensated for come the finale.

As a drama it pails next to other frat boy movies like "Dead Poets Society" or "Good Will Hunting" and at times feels too plot driven to provide any great heart but Jim Sturgess provides a decent enough performance to have you caring about the outcome.

The ending does feel contrived and a little sugar coated but it keeps you guessing and can be classed as a good movie but not a great one. 3/5.

Sony Pictures have granted this movie with an MPEG-4 AVC, 2.40:1 framed transfer on a 50GB Blu-ray disc of the highest quality.

The film was shot digitally so maybe I shouldn't be surprised but I was impressed at how filmic it actually looked.

The detail is stunning with no compression issues or edge enhancement visible. Colours are well saturated with accurate skin tones and textures. The Vegas scenes look truely stunning and are a great example of why Blu-ray is definitely 6 times better than DVD.

The only issue that I spotted were a few moments of shimmering in scenes set in nightclubs but all in all it's hardly surprising considering the range of colours on display. Detail in the blacks is another area where this transfer comes up trumps with no crushing evident. This is a great disc to show off your HD set up.

The textures are so well rendered that you can actually detect the texture of the playing cards. Amazing.

This disc includes an extra which actually enables you to attempt Black Jack for yourself in an attempt to beat the house, gimmicky but fun none the less.

Overall film and transfer 4/5.

THIS DISC IS REFERENCE QUALITY.

I liked this film. The Interactive Blackjack Extra just takes it to 4 stars. The cast are very good and Jim Sturgess in the lead role was excellent. Kate Bosworth is also completely gorgeous and I have not seen her in anything before. I thought Kevin Spacey was a bit on autopilot and his role was not really meaty enough for him. Overall the film was fun, but especially predicatable in places. Good to see Laurence Fishbourne as well. Great locations in Las Vegas and having been there was nice to see so much filming inside the hotels. Have to say, I would probably get this on DVD, as apart from the Las Vegas exterior shots, there is a lot of darkness in the film and little or no action, so is basically not a conclusive Blu Ray purchase. You don't get the Interactive Blackjack game on the DVD though. I am sure you will enjoy this film and I am tempted to buy the book which has been said to be a must read and more in depth than the film, which most books are.

This is a good example of something different from all other films out that scores big. Poeple get a bit bored of the same types of films just with different actors and locations thats why this film is very good. The acting, plot and entertainment of this film are all put together well. Worth getting.

 Just good

It's just a good film. Very clever too. And the blackjack game is worth the Blu-Ray too :D I highly recommend it.
