My favourite vamp film just got alot better!!

| | See all Vinsta's reviews (3)

Wow, I was amazed at just how good the picture quality is in this film. Colours are vibrant and there's very very little grain or noise during the nightime scenes. The only thing that gives away the age of this film is how young kiefer is (and perhaps the clothes/hairstyles worn by his pack of leather clad rock vamps)
I watched this when it first came out when I was about 12 years old. It instantly became my favourite vamp film and still has not been bettered.
The soundtrack is amazing (I bought the soundtrack album back in the day) and bar one song it still sounds incredibley fresh.
Ive not looked at the extras yet but it looks like there are plenty from looking in the menus
If you're not usually into horror you should still get this, its not particularly gorey, infact there's only one scene halfway through that I would even consider to be a bit gorey but its over before you can turn away.
Also for some reason this film reminds me alot of 'the goonies' one of the actors from said film is in this (his name escapes me as I write) and the comedy is very similar.
So do yourself a favor and buy this

Im not going to review the movie, because if you dont know what the lost boys is about by now, you never will.

What i will say, is the audio is clear n crisp, and the picture is fab
for a movie of this age.
It gets 5 stars for those points, and the fact it really is a good movie.

A truly Brilliant moment in 80s Cinema. This film zips along at a brilliant pace.
90 Minutes of Fun, Thrills and moments of Comic Gold.
The story is brilliantly simple, the direction Spot On, and the Performances are first rate.
From Kiefer Sutherland to Dianne Weist. Its also got a Killer Soundtrack.
The location, somewhere in California, really evokes a sense of 80s America where anything was possible.
All Time Classic.

  Classic!!

An absolute cult classic! This film gets better and better as it gets older in some strange way. Its among my favourite ever films. It has everything, its funny, witty and stylish. Kiefer Sutherland is immense as head vampire David and the rest of the cast suit the roles perfectly. This is easily the best vampire film I have ever see. If that's not enough the blu ray quality is outstanding for a film in the late 80's and the soundtrack is simply brilliant. There are also lots of special features to dig into on this blu ray disc which will be brilliant for long time fans and newcomers! Get this film!

The Lost Boys looks great on blu-ray and is a 80's classic.

The Lost Boys was the first vampire film that I watched when I was a boy and ever since then I have been hooked on vampire movies. Kiefer Sutherland who is more famous for his 24 series now looks so young and even back then showed us what a fine actor he is just like his father Donlad Sutherland. One of the best things for me about Lost Boys is all the humour thats mixed in with the small bites of horror. The soundtrack is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time which sounds great in it's blu-ray surround sound. This for is the best vampire film from the 1980's and I'm so glad that they have done a very good job on the blu-ray transfar.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!!!

A true Cult Classic of the 80s. The Lost Boys somewhat re-invented the vampire genre when it first came out. Features 2 old 80s idols , the Coreys Haim & Feldman. Also features Alex Winter, Jason Patric & the man to be Jack Bauer Keifer Sutherland. Along with Blade these are my two favorite Vamprie films & a worthy edition to any Blu Ray Collection.

The film that redefined a genre goes High Definition

| | See all pjdenyer's reviews (9)

For those of us of a certain age 'The Lost Boys' defined a decade and redefined a genre, initially a low key release release the film quickly gained and audience predominantly through word of mouth and had a sucessful theater run followed by cult status on VHS. This VHS success being helped by it's release just as studios started to realise the potential market for affordable movies to buy rather than rent. However, unlike the majority of movies, the enthusiasm for this movie has never gone away and like a good rock album it has passed down to the next generation(s) first on DVD and now Blu Ray.

It's hard to believe that it's been two decades since I first saw this film, Keifer Sutherland looks unbelievably young, and Cory Fieldman's wardrobe has looks jarringly outdated, but other than that it has aged surprisingly well thanks to a tight script, engaging story and a well balanced and talented cast, this film fit's the 'Buffy' generation like a glove (a testiment to it's influance on the newer show), but doesn't feel like the plot has become hackneyed or over imitated.

Picture quality varies, the impression is that this is due to a decision to shoot in lower lighting conditions with high sensitivity (and hence noisy) film stock rather than print or transfer quality issues as noise and grain appear and dissappear between edits in darker scenes, when the print is good though the picture quality is amazing, one particular shot of sunset over the Santa Carla Boardwalk (immediately before the Lost Boys attack the house) takes your breath away, unfortunately the variaton in quality tends to draw attention to the poorer sections in a way that was less obvious on DVD or even VHS with their attendant lower expectations.

On the audio side, the 5.1 soundtrack is well realised with environmental accoustics such as the echos of the gang's cave like lair reproduced very effectively, the soundtrack did strike me as being centered firmly on the screen, for example in the scene where motorcycles surround the house and the gang can be heard calling Michaels name I would have liked more emphisis on the rear speakers to draw the viewer into the scene, at the end of this scene when all noise suddenly stops the clarity of the soundtrack is revealed in the perfectly reproduced sound of dry leaves blowing across the yard. The rock and roll soundtrack of this film is one of it's strong points and this is handled well with a robust yet well balanced sound which never threatens to overwelm the action.

Special features are good including several deleated screens and a retrospective with Joel Schumacher and Richard Donner.

In conclusion, this film is a must have, if you don't already own it the buy the Blu Ray disk, no question, but if you already have the DVD you need to consider that is not a film that benefits hugely from the improved picture quality, for the reasons discussed above, although for the commited fan or completeist the special features will make a compelling argument to buy.

  Lost Boys - Classic

Just finished watching this on blue ray and will admit, the print is pretty good!! A few of the darker parts of the film look a bit dodgy but hey, the film is 21 years old. A good purchase and a must for fans of this classic.

Lost Boys looking(?) and sounding good.

I have just finished watching an R1 imported via Play.Usa, and I must say I enjoyed the movie like it was the first time! The True HD mix was amazing. I saw things I don't think I ever noticed on the VHS or DVD editions. My only gripe is with the transfer. Some areas are noicy, (film grain?) Some areas seem to show some focus problems, but these maybe due to the film being 21 years old! All in it's a must have for a true fan and a revelation if only for the True HD mix!
