This Spring, the Dead Will Rise!

Nick Cannon, Mena Suvari, and Ving Rhames star in this horror film based on the George A. Romero classic zombie film. A mysterious virus has infected the small town of Leadville, Colorado and the military is brought in to enforce a quarantine and stop the spread of the disease. As people perish, survivors realize that the virus is creating the walking dead who crave human flesh. Only a small number of people are immune to the virus and those few survivors must battle to fend off the infected zombies while trying to make it out of town alive.

Thank God, no spoilers, but there are some interesting twists. I read the reviews of this on IMDB and here but I still bought it. I am a zombie aficienado and although I love Mr Romero and his 'shuffling rotbags' I think it's wonderful that someone else has taken a fresh look at a, sometimes, tired genre. The idea raised in the book (not the awful film) 'I am legend' raises a question, Would a muslim vampire be afraid of a crucifix ? This has been transposed to a zombie question, (this sounds odd but watch the film and you will see what I mean). This is a refreshing look at the OTT world of a zombie takeover, buy it watch it and enjoy it.

Buy it 2 support the genre but believe me youll wish u hadnt

Seriously people, don't buy this movies with any sort of expectations. It's a disgrace that it was allowed to be licensed under the same name as a Romero classic, but beside that fact, it's just a bad movie all in all. Now don't get me wrong, I would sit through ANY zombie movie at least once (the cheap ones are often the best, if not at least funniest) but this one really tested my resolve. Spiderman/ceiling crawling zombies are just a no-no for any movie!! And the transformations... those zombies' changed quicker than the missus' mood ;-)
Like I said, I'm a zombie fan-boy, so by all means please buy this movie and support the genre, but don't expect to like it, you have been warned.

What is everybody's problem with this movie?

I watched it the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw no problem with the actors barring the two black performers, one because Ving Rhames was wasted in his role - he really should have played a longer, more involved part. And the other (don't know what his name is) for playing such an obvious 'gangsta' type performance, I started to find his continual moaning and threatening people tiresome (not the actor's fault, it's the script).
Those two gripes aside, I found the film fast moving, gory, I thought well photographed and I liked Mena Suvari's performance (Is it just me or is she getting younger since she was in American Beauty?).

And on a final point, the zombies scrabbling across the roof may well be implausible, but it gave me a jump and anything that gives a different spin to the zombie genre should be encouraged.

I am as big a fan of the Romero films as anybody else - but c'mon guys, it's an open field for reinvention, if every film slavishly follows his template for zombie movies all we will get is a shed load of carbon copies.

 Dead Is Yum!

This film is fun! Its not as good as the remake of dawn of the dead, but it still is a good horror film to watch. Top tip ! Lights off sound up full!!!!
