I've just seen the show for the first time, within less than a week all parts because I just couldn't stop watching. I am german but I am 35 years old, so all I know about the war is what we were told in school. I thought I knew quite a bit but this show was absolutely amazing. I've acutally learned from it and I loved the way it was told. Especially that "the germans" were not all the bad bad people who wanted to kill everyone that isn't blue eyed and blond but that it was a minority that thought that way and a lot of the soldiers just did what they were told to do or else they would have been killed themselves. I acutally cried during the ninth part when they discovered the concentration camp and it was a special treat to watch it if you acutally speak german and english, very well done the german parts! My congrats to everyone involved in making this and I am and will always be in awe of Mr Spielberg and Mr Hanks! Thank you for an amazing week!

If you liked the DVD-version, you will love this Blu-Ray version! I had earlier the DVD-version and used to watch it upscaled to 1080p with PS3 and it looked already so good that I was a bit suspicious would it be even better on BD as the picture is already manipulated to a rough look of the time to give it more authencity. Still I wanted to see it along with the new extras and - WOW! The experience has been really great. The picture is really up to a real 1080p, even though in some night shots it is only marginally better than the upscaled DVD. Even better is the new DTS-HD audio track, e.g. in part six (Bastogne) the bombings are much more real vs the DVD's DD5.1.

The new extra "In the words of Easy Company" brings the depth and authencity to the story as the real heroes are telling what really happened and how they acted in reality on spot along the feature. There's much new material that wasn't on the DVD-version. This extra works flawlesly with the feature but the other "In the field with men of Easy Company" is stickier as always when you want to see the additional info or video material the feature pauses for a second to load the extra feature. Also this extra brings much new info but also some that are not that vital for those interested in WWII stuff as those are so common (e.g. the ranks of US army).

All in all, this is a great BD set for the price and would also make a great gift for those interested. I just hope the next installment "The Pacific" will be as great as this is.

This is a terriffic box set. The lossless HD audio will absolutely blow your ears off (just as it should be).

The picture is crisp and clear, its not demonstration material but that has more to do with the fact the series was shot with a washed out film stock to give it that gritty feel.

The picture in picture commentarys are good but not something you would watch and listen to more than once but the series itself is a masterpiece and this is how it was meant to be seen.

I wouldnt normally upgrade a TV series having already owned the DVD version but this is one case where I made an exception and am glad I did.
