Batman (1989) (Blu-ray)

Being a batman fan for over 20yrs, i've seen this film countless times, and it is still as enjoyable as it was 20yrs ago. Is it worth buying on blue-ray? Undoubtably yes...i've owned it on vhs, it was one of the first dvd's i bought, and a couple of yrs ago, i replaced my vanilla copy with the special edition, this is a straight forward transfer, there is nothing wrong with that, it looks stunning and fresh, however, thats one of the problems, warner bros hasn't cleaned up the original print of the film, dirt and scratches are clearly visible in places, unquestionably, for a film which is 20yrs old the hd quality is instantly apparent, more so than the, batman returns blu-ray. So, is it worth it, yes and no, because i recently discovered that warners is currently in the process of remastering the original print and intends to release a 20th anniversary edition of the film this year, with added extras, which is why i've only given it 3 stars instead of 4.

I am glad that this film is now being released on Blu-Ray. Though this isn't highly camp like the Adam West Batman of old, it also doesn't take itself quite as seriously as the recent films. Jack Nicholson, for me, is the perfect Joker and looks like he's having the time of his life here. This is what Batman should all be about - a fun, action flick for all the family.

First of all,this is far,far better than its dvd counterpart,i own the dvd version and watching them side by side there is a massive improvement!!!.
Gone are the grainy marks, and heck,its even worth buying it just for the beginning intro as the jumpy washed out yellow credits are replaced with nice and bright colors with no sign of age,the sound is also fantastic as are the special features,i was a bit dubious about buying this but now im glad i did:)
Also i think some people should plug in a HDMI lead and not a SCART.

Excellent transfer - sound appears to be quiet on my system no idea why, nevermind you can always turn it up louder!!!
Way better quality than i expected after reading the last review as i have seen some really poor transfers on blu ray - but this isnt 1 of them im well happy!!!

The best Batman movie ever!. Never to be bettered!! Tim Burton's gothic styling of a troubled city , Jack Nicholson's acting , Michael Keaton's portrayal of a troubled soul which led to his own type of vigilantism ," BATMAN ". 10/10. This blu ray release deserves to be given a 2 disc special edition release similar to the last dvd edition.
