Strength. Courage. Honor. And loyalty.

Chills and thrills: will Gotham City be put on ice? George Clooney is Batman as the dark knight battles his greatest threat yet: Cold-hearted Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and venomous Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman). New very special effects include a wild sky-surfing sequence and Freeze's outrageous ice-blasting arsenal. It's state-of-the-art excitement from our Batfamily to yours!

Finally! A Batman for younger viewers

Batman and batman returns are still rated 15, and let's not forget that batman was originally for kids...so here, along with the enjoyably daft batman forever, is a bat-film that little boys - and even, for the first time, thanks to uma thurman and alicia silverstone, little girls - can enjoy. I just watched this on blu-ray with the kids and while they ate up every scene (arnold schwarzenegger's mr freeze is an absolute scream if you're eight years old) while i was forced to eat humble pie and admit that, now that i have kids (which i didn't in 1997), i finally see what warner bros and joel schumacher were going for when they decided to lighten the tone and make a batman for younger bat-fans. Got kids? Leave your cynicism at the door, watch the dark knight again when they've gone to bed, and let them enjoy batman & robin for what it is: Sheer entertainment for pint-sized bat-fans.

It really isn't all that bad! I certainly enjoy watching it from time to time, and I'm a Batman movie fan. In fact I personally would take these older batman films over the new Christian Bale versions, which take themselves far too seriously. Clooneys no Michael Keaton it has to be said, but taken in the right spirit then this is an entertaining bit of fun.

 Nearly Killed The Franchise.

Batman & Robin (1997) is a really bad comic book movie starring George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone.

The casting is all wrong. Clooney is without doubt the worst of the movie Batmans. Clooney attempts to lighten up the Dark Knight with a more charismatic and happier Bruce Wayne but it really doesn't work for the character.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr Freeze is laughably bad with his endless stream of cold jokes and puns. Thurman offers nothing as Poison Ivy, O'Donnell continues to be bland as Robin and Silverstone's Batgirl is just dumb.

Director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys) gets everything wrong from the silly neon colours to the redesigned Batman suit. Schumacher's action is limp and the whole tone of the movie is completely wrong.

The biggest offender though is Oscar winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) whose script must be considered one of the worst ever written. Bland characters, silly dialogue, a pointless plot and an endless stream of unfunny jokes and puns.

Batman & Robin was so bad it nearly killed the franchise. It took nearly a decade break and Christopher Nolan to relaunch it with Batman Begins.

 Awful movie.

Never mind a utility belt. This Batman (and Robin) have utility boots with built-in ice-skates. Holy Busted Franchise Batman!
