In Forbidden Kingdom, American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China.

There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus frees himself.

This film is superb. I got mine from the US early and it doesnt dissapoint with features either! The film is a perfect combination of asian/western cinema and is all in English! The story itself i feel plays out like a Disney film only crammed with martial arts from Yuen woo Ping (The Matrix) and of course Jet Li and Jackie Chan. My only complaint is that there is only one fight with Jackie and Jet together....still it's incredible. Buy it now and watch the awesome Blu-Ray quality shine through.

A brilliant martial arts film for the whole family to enjoy.

I know The Forbidden Kingdom has a rating of 12 but I reckon most 8 year olds could watch this really. Anyway when I saw this film starred Jackie Chan and Jet Li two of the best martial artists alive today, I just knew it would be something rather speciel indeed. A teenager who is a massive martial arts fan finds this magic staff which somehow whisked him off to this forbidden kingdom where he must free the imprisoned Monkey King. Jackie Chan plays a drunken master who reminds me a little bit of Shun-Di from Virtua Fighter in the way he drinks as he fights at one point. Jet Li plays a monk and one of the highlights of the film is seeing these to pros fight eachother. They both play other roles in the film which will give you something to look out for and the fights scenes are most excellent. In fact sometimes when a film has a lot of fighting it can get a bit boring but I did not find this one bit with The Forbidden Kingdom because the choregraphy is brilliant. Another topnotch Blu-ray film which I got together with the stunning but very gory Apocalypto film in the two for £22 pounds deal.

 Monkey for the noughties!!

I thought this film was brilliant!! Not only did it have Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Collin Chou but had so many references to the original "Monkey" TV series of the seventies that it made the film even more enjoyable for me. Having said that, the film was open to modern film goers who had never seen the series.

In the sequence when you see Jason wake up he makes the gesture with his fingers while rubbing his eyes that Monkey did to call his "cloud" and of course - having the TV series playing on Jason's TV in the background was a lovely touch too.

I recomend this film to all, just as it was recommended to me by a good friend of mine and I am grateful that he did. Excellent!!

 Good But Not Great

First off I also have the US version and the US 2 disc version does not come with a SD (dvd) version it comes with a digial copy that allows you to download the movie from iTunes but as its only valid for US residents the second disc is useless.

As stated by others this title looks and sounds fantastic but does that make it worth buying on its own right? No, the film must be good too.

This is a so-so movie and were it not for the pairing of Jackie Chan and Jet Li no one would have probably gone to see it. Bot actors do their thing (Chan - slapstick and Li - serious). There are a few good fight scenes but are mainly all wirework fights which I know some dont like.

This is a kiddies movie at the end of the day and I have no doubt that younger viewers will absolutely love the movie and the action. For fans of Chan and Li to know that this is probably the only time these 2 legends will share the screen its disappointing. These 2 legends could have pulled off numerous all time classic 'old school' fights but instead we are left with a feeling of what could of been, but what do you expect from the director of Stuart Little 1 & 2.

So in summation for kids this is excellent but for martial arts fans a big disappointment considering those involved.
