L.A Confidential is a sordid tale of sex, scandal, betrayal and corruption throughout the police, politics and press in 1940's Hollywood is a film noir masterpiece. The Oscar-winning screenplay is a compelling blend of LA history and pulp fiction. Kim Basinger's potrayal of conflicted femme fatale is outstanding and Pearce's character is an intriguing blend of amorality and ambition.

This movie needs no further comment - however this is aimed specifically at the quality of this BD transfer which other reviewers have slated as merely an 'upscaled dvd' - not so, folks! This 1080p image sparkles from begining to end with a sharp & very detailed picture that is streets ahead of the SD - colours are rendered beautifully, with great contrast levels & deep inky blacks & makes for a great High Def transfer in every way - likewise the DoblyTrueHD soundtrack is spot on! Trust me, you won't be disappointed. A great movie on a great disc...Highly Recommended!
We know it is a great film , it is just a pity the transfer isn't . It is far better than the dvd but i expected a much sharper picture and sound for such a classic film
Everyone who has any interest in noir-ish thrillers owes it to themselves to watch this film. Even if you don't, you'll find that this adaptation of James Ellroy's book is still a stunning piece of cinema, one which was criminally overlooked at the Oscars (although it was going up against Titanic that year - though looking back it is easily a better film). Complex and intelligent, it demands your full attention right up until the exciting finale. I love this film, so much so that the blu ray version will be the third time I have bought it on different formats. Highly recommended, no collection should be without.
A great story well told, you should have this film in any serious collection.
