From the engine roar and fever pitch of professional stock car racing, Days Of Thunder explodes with the most spectacular racing action ever captured on film.

Tom Cruise plays race car driver Cole Trickle, whose talent and ambition are surpassed only by his burning need to win. Discovered by businessman Tim Daland (Randy Quaid), Cole is teamed with legendary crew chief and car-builder Harry Hogge (Academy Award-winner Robert Duvall) to race for the Winston Cup at the Daytona 500. A fiery crash nearly ends race car driver Cole Trickle's career until he turns to a beautiful doctor (Nicole Kidman) to regain his nerve and true courage needed to race, to win and to live.

Four years after the success of Top Gun director Tony Scott, producers Bruckheimer/Simpson and star Tom Cruise decided to work together again and basically remade the blockbuster with racing stock cars replacing fighter jets.

Days Of Thunder (1990) stars Tom Cruise as Cole Trickle (silly name) a maverick race car driver. Cruise is supported by Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker, John C Reilly and Nicole Kidman.

The plot is almost the same as Top Gun but not as good. Cruise is at his good looking best but struggles with silly dialogue. There is a nice vulnerability to Cruise's character which gives him some depth but not its not enough to save his performance.

The supporting cast are a mixed bag. Duvall does his best as the wise old mentor. Quaid and Reilly are pretty much wasted while Kidman is very dull as the romantic interest. Rooker though is great as the tough attitude rival to Cruise's character.

Director Tony Scott does a great job during the car races. They really are Days Of Thunders saving grace. Thrilling and exciting while remaining realistic. Scott has also toned down the macho posturing which was so abundant in Top Gun.

Days Of Thunder is a entertaining but lacks depth. Its no Top Gun but if you want a silly popcorn movie then this is a pretty decent choice.

DAYS OF THUNDER ON BLU-RAY '' SUPERB ''

The transfer from standard dvd to blu-ray is a huge improvement has the film is 20 years old. the picture quality is grainy at the start but it does get better, the cars look amazing in hd 1080p & the colours are rich & deep...

The sound is superb on my sony cinema system has the car engines roar & the race gets under way so if your a big fan of racing cars this is a must film for the blu-ray collection...

The only disappointment was the special features has there is only the trailer so don't except loads of extra's...

GET THE CINEMA SYSTEM TURNED UP YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED... GREAT FILM... ENJOY

As far as the film itself goes, you either like it or not! I love it, as does Quentin Tarantino who put it in his favourite top ten. The non-anamorphic dvd version broke my heart, it didnt look good and it didnt sound great, the old VHS version was better. There is grain, but that was how the print has always been, cinema included, and it is 20 years old.....but if your looking to upgrade from the dvd, it is a massive improvement, and if you like the film go for it! If you are looking for hi-def perfection go for Dark Knight or Avatar, but this aint bad by a long shot! The only extra is the trailer, and that looks good! If you havent seen it, it aint a bad price for a bit of popcorn fun, and it has one of the funniest lines I think I've ever seen "thats interesting enough mr. Trickle, but it isnt my speciality!"

 Top Gun on a racetrack!

Pretty much sums it up! Headstrong young man gets big break, screws it up with bad error of judgement, undergoes test of character and strength, emerges stronger from said test, the end.
