Winner of 8 Acadamy Awards and 7 Baftas including Best Film and Best Director.

Today is the biggest day in Jamal Malik's life.

A Penniless, eighteen year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, he's one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, suddenly, he is arrested on suspicion of cheating. After all, how could an uneducated street kid possibly know so much? Determined to get to the bottom of Jamal's story, the jaded Police Inspector spends the night probing Jamal's incredible past, from his riveting tales of the slums where he and his brother Salim survived by their wits to his hair-raising encounters with local gangs to his heartbreak over Latika, the unforgettable girl he loved and lost.

Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out... The result is the sweeping, stylish, intoxicatingly human experience of Slumdog Milliomaire, the new film from acclaimed director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, Millions, 28 Days Later, Sunshine). Part exhilarating love story, part eye-catching journey into the underbelly of the so-called "maximum city" of Mumbai, part stirring tale of an Everyman's triumph against a harsh, cynical world, Slumdog Millionaire is a visceral, action-packed Dickensian epic for the 21st Century. At the heart of its exhuberant storytelling lies the the intriguing question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love.

Shocked that it was this good

I went into slumdog not thinking much really the plot from the trailer didn't really look good. I saw it because i like danny boyle's films and i was board at work (i work at a cinema). All i can say is thank god i was board was i ended up seeing one of the best films so far in 2009. The story worked great yes it seems a bit simple like a guy ask this person a question and he looks back in his life to get the answer but it was great fun, funny, sad everything really about how this boy didn't have much going in his life and it all gets good for him at the end it does what it says on the tin. Its a feel good film. So to sum up if you think this film doesn't look good from your point give it a go. You will be shocked at how good it is

On first review before seeing this I thought it would be a gameshow centred drama which to an extent it is....but it is much much more...How the story intertwines with two brothers brought up in the slums of Mumbai in India only to see their mother killed and their race for survival against Religious bigotry and gangsterism is totally sublime...But how Jamal and his brother Salim take totally different paths in life involving their own issues with each other is another story. The Director is ingenius in the way he implicates Jamal's experiences in growing up with his ability to answer the questions whilst being unexpectedly chosen for India's who want's to be a millionaire...This is a truely unique film which involves Jamal's love for Latika a girl he fell in love with from an early age only to lose her again but never giving up his quest to find her once more....The film is heartwarming, inspirational but most of all one of the best films to hit celluloid in quite some time....a complete masterpiece....watch it and find out for yourself...Very highly recommended
