Tokyo Sonata is an intriguing mix of esoteric culture, manic depression, and inferiority complexes stretched out to span this nigh-on magical film. It follows a family caught up in their own world, struggling to hold it together. Inevitably, the family discintegrates, impacting everyone.
The Tokyo sonata played in the film is a truly mesmerising, enchanting piece that is wonderfully played and serves as a tie to hold the film together.
If you like pseudo 'documentaries' that reveal a lot about culture, family, and traditional values, this is for you. Highly recommended and wonderful to watch throughout.
