Three outlaws. One map. No prisoners.

Set in the 1930's Manchurian desert where lawlessness rules, three Korean men fatefully meet each other on a train.

Do-Won (Jung Woo-sung) is a bounty hunter who tracks down dangerous criminals.
Chang- yi (Lee Byung-hun) is the leader of a group of tough-as- nails bandits.
Tae-goo (Song Kang-ho) is a train robber with nine lives.

The three strangers engage in a chase across Manchuria to take possession of a map Tae-goo discovers while robbing the train. Also on the hunt for the mysterious map are the Japanese army and Asian bandits. In this unpredictable, escalating battle for the map, who will stand as the winner in the end?

Didn't really know what to expect from this movie, read peoples reviews, liked the trailer and thought would give it a go....well, glad i did. really enjoyed it, the cast were good, bad and weird! . . .The movie moves along at a good pace and doesn't leave you hanging about like some. the bluray picture looks good to me and the sound is way good. ...Play' describe english language which it is not, but the subs are not too long and very easy to keep up with.

 Western fun out east.

Owing more than a passing nod to the great Sergio Leone for it`s style & story, this movie is crammed full of outrageously inventive action & violence. The western myth is transported to 30`s Manchuria as 3 men grapple over a treasure map that will make them rich.Along the way they`re chased by 100`s of bandits & the Japanese Army! The picture & audio are superb as are the staggering amount of extras. It`s an original, quirky & highly inventive movie, with enormous energy & beautiful photography. The story rockets along at an enormous pace as every weapon known to Mankind is used to bloody effect by the cast to annihilate eachother. It`s a wild, funny crazy film that looks & sounds great on Blu-ray.Highly recommended.

 Brilliant but censored

The UK edition has three cuts for horse falls, a nuisance as the film is great, the actors play their parts brilliantly and the transfer is stunning. Collectors will prefer the uncut Korean issue which seems to have the same transfer with removable subtitles instead of burnt in (handy for those whose players can move the subs up or down if they don't like the default position) and DTS-HD MA 7.1 sound. Negotiating the menus is more than tricky on that edition (unless you're Korean) and extras aren't subtitled

The Not Bad and Not so weird

Looks great, sounds great. Was really looking forward to watching this.Plenty of action, not quite as slapstick as I expected, but overall ,reasonable entertainment.Wouldnt put it in the five star bracket as some parts did appear to drag on a bit, possibly could have done with a tougher edit.Ending was a bit of an anti climax after a 2 hour build up.Fair extras.

 Shallow... Incredible!

This is the latest leap in South Korean cinema. 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird' might never take you much deeper than what's happening on-screen, but when what's happening on-screen is out-of-this-world, breathtaking, adrenaline-pumping and hilarious action spectacle, who needs depth? This is the best popcorn action flick of 2008, and with no argument whatsoever, an essential high-definition purchase!
