DreamWorks' hilarious CGI animated match-up pits Monsters Vs. Aliens in a family-friendly battle of killer lines, slapstick action and sci-fi tomfoolery. Featuring the voice talent of Seth Rogen, Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd, prepare to laugh your way right through this cracking film.

A light-hearted comedy akin to Bee Movie or Madagascar, Monsters Vs. Aliens sees sweet Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon - Walk The Line) hit by a meteorite containing a powerful substance called quantonium. The intergalactic fossil fuel turns Susan into a 50-foot tall giant and she is soon captured by the government and locked up with some other top secret monsters. When Aliens attack, it's this rabble of giants, freaks and insane geniuses who must save the world from the dastardly Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson - Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen).

Play.com review

As the latest instalment from Dreamworks in their slugging match with fellow CGI mega-studio Pixar, Monsters vs. Aliens has much to live up to. Last year, Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda went toe-to-toe with Pixar's colossally successful Wall-E, and this year Monsters Vs. Aliens faces the much-anticipated Up for computer-generated supremacy. Luckily, in this kind of fight there's only one winner: us!

With plenty of killer lines and slapstick action, the film is perfect for kids - both big and small - and like any Dreamworks production, there's more than enough plot to keep you gripped until the end. In fact, it's the perfect example of a present you'll buy for the kids - and end up keeping for yourself.

Starring the voice talent of Hugh Laurie (House), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Seth Rogen (Funny People, Observe And Report), Will Arnett (G-Force) and Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man), the film has all the comedy kicks you could ever want, and the script has enough dynamite to keep Alfred Nobel happy! As far as the Dreamworks/Pixar sparring goes, Monsters Vs. Aliens has done its bit - it's over to you Up!

Monsters vs Aliens (2009) is an animated family sci-fi comedy featuring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett and Kiefer Sutherland.

The plot is very kid-friendly and there's not alot here for adults to enjoy. There are some nice moments and the characters are enduring but the plot is very weak.

There are a couple of funny jokes which adults will enjoy but the plot and characters are too shallow for most adults and do not get near the emotional complexcity of a Pixar movie.

That said this is still a good movie and kids will probably love it. The Blu-Ray looks amazing but there's hardly no extras just a rather dull trivia track.

AKA Incredible Monsters In Black Attacks!

There's a big difference between homage and a rip-off- and unfortunately Dreamworks (unlike Pixar) have gone for the latter. That's right- MVA is a disappointing mishmash of Monsters Inc with The Incredibles, and Men In Black with Mars Attacks. Unlike their excellent previous effort- Ku Fu Panda (their only movie comparable to Pixar's repertoire)- Dreamworks have returned to their tried and tested route of going for the lowest common denominator through cheap gags and predictable scenarios. Worst of all, it isn't even that funny!

Of course, the animation is as spectacular as you should expect, and the blu-ray presentation is pristine. The main character Ginormica (Reese Witherspoon) is likeable enough to keep you watching, and some of the set pieces are impressive- especially the San Francisco robot attack.

But all things considered, and if you like animation, you could watch the far superior Coraline on DVD, or indeed go to the cinema and enjoy Pixar's 'Up'. Dreamworks really need to do better if they want to keep the adults as entertained as the kids.

 Monster Movie

lets get this into context first.
IT'S A KIDS CARTOON FROM DREAMWORKS.

So all the " it has little for adults " is a bit irrelevant,

The plot is funny, it's supposed to be an homage to cult classics.
The characters are superbly voiced by an all star cast.
The blu-ray picture quality is absolutely outstanding.

i know these types of films are also aimed at the parents and i have to say i think it stands up with the best in that respect also.

As a familly we have watched this over and over. Love it.

 Very entertaining and great picture

As expected the picture quality of this digital animation is top notch. I have watched this twice now with the kids and it was brilliant both times. Yes it draws ideas from other films but it works, with great characters and a great story. If you want to be entertained and have a laugh witht ehkids, this is for you. A must own Bluray in my opinion.
