Based on the book Defiance: The Bielski Partisans by Nechama Tec, Defiance revolves around three Jewish Brothers, Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Schreiber) and Asael Bielski (Jamie Bell), who live in Nazi occupieed Poland.

The Bielski brothers manage to escape into the Belarussian forest where they unite with Russian resistance fighters. The group endeavour to build a village inside the forest in order to protect themselves and others in danger.

Fantastic. I don't think anyone would dislike this film, shows nazi Germany from a different side.

 What's all the fuss about?!

I cannot work out the hype surrounding this film. It was such a disappointment when I saw it at the cinema.I have no doubt the reality of the story is very moving and in the hands of another production team it could have been great.
The beginning of the film rushes along, within minutes of lighting a camp fire the brothers have become heroes and hundreds of people appear out of the woods wanting to join them?!
The main thing that lets it down is the lack of reality in the battle scenes, as far as I know a five inch thick sapling will not protect you from a tank shell? This attitude turned the film into a '1960's John Wayne war movie' and at that point I lost interest.
I have a theory as to why it was hyped and pushed so much, all I will say is that it's their ball.........

I'll start with the negative points
The explosions aren't very realistic, more 'Hollywood' style.
The physics are a little bit odd. (A tank managing a hit on the opposite side of a ditch without ploughing through the ground first?)

Other than that, Defiance is an excellent film. It is historically accurate with the right weaponry, clothing, acting and language.

It is visually mind-blowing, seeing the individual hairs on Craig's chin as he dodges bullets is an adrenaline rush.

The acting is brilliant, the combination clicks. There's no other way to put it!

Overall, a fantastic film so long as you're not a history buff looking for minor mistakes!
