 Could have been better

The new remastered visuals are awesome and the sound is extremely good too. The only thing that lets down the remaster is the 3D effects, there's just no need for them at all...

The original GITS is also on hte disc but it looks and sounds terrible compared to the remaster.

 i agree with nosuch's review

most issues already covered ie picture / sound etc, i have to support nosuch' review of the blending of 2d manga classic style anime which is on its own what you expect from a manga classic with new style ultra high quality cgi which is so good it almost looks 3d, unfortuantely in my opinion the two do not mix well at all, if the whole film were done in one or the other it would be superb but the cutting between the two styles was very annoying, it made the old style seem so outdated which it wouldn't have seemed if it was like that all the way through, i am sorry but the blending is just so wrong, unlike other programmes which have replaced old special effects with cgi that worked ie Star trek original series and the original star wars trilogy they stuck to the original concept and improved what they had, this just changes totally all the way through, it feels disjointed, makes you want to skip scenes, just wrong, wrong, wrong.

 AMAZED BY THE BLU RAY

Brilliant REMASTERED classic i am amazed i am a fan of the original which is also on the disc to watch but this takes the GITS in comparison to the new version, quality high definition sound and picture best watched on a blu ray player and not the Bread Bin and i would recomend surround sound to take full advantage of pure sound 10/10 blu ray is defintly the way forward prices starting to fall at last but do buy this film

A must for all Blu Ray Players! :)

Ghost In The Shell has always been a classic anime. This is an amazing re-image! mixing the same animation with more up to date CGI! it is just a brilliant film made even better by the addition of the new cgi scenes!

A disappointing update of a classic

The original Ghost in the Shell is one of my all-time favourite sci-fi movies, and I was looking forward to this update.

And indeed, some scenes have been updated with lovely CGI graphics. The problem is that they don't blend in with the majority of scenes that are unchanged from the original. It feels like you're switching between two completely differently designed films. The two Kusanagis don't even look the same, which is distracting to say the least.

I didn't quite give up though, and tried to watch the original version included as bonus material on the blu-ray. The original Ghost in the Shell in HD would still be worth the price of the disc - only it turned out to be in un-glorious Standard Definition with plain stereo sound, and actually inferior to the DVD version I already own.

In conclusion: wait for the blu-ray of the original GitS. I wish I had.

Not just a HD version its much more

I can garuntee you this will be a excellent movie the graphics have been redone to bring it more upto date with the second film & stand alone complex other then that it is exactly the same scene for scene
