 A truly terrible film

Considering it's origins this film was such a disappointment and quite disturbing, like something from eastern Europe from the 1970s.

 Balls!

This film ate serious balls. Max was in need of a slap. The monsters sucked. Do yourself a favour a re-read the classic if you want to relive your childhood. This film does everything in it's power to destroy the book. Avoid!

 Not what I expected

I watched it yesterday and to be honest I was expecting something which would make me think a little bit or something that would take me back to my childhood but i did not feel any of them during the film. I was very disappointed and also bored during the film.I did not like it at all and I am about to resell it.

 A Perspective View

Well well well. This movie really seems to have split the Play.com opinion right down the middle.
Personally I was expecting to watch a film that was full of Imagination and that would ultimately make me feel like a kid.
That would make me feel the same Excitement and Sense of Wonderment when I watched films like Back to the Future and The Goonies and Stand By Me and Flight of the Navigator and the rest of the 80s Classics. I appreciate that this is not that TYPE of film, but that was my hope from it.
But for me it just didnt happen, the story didnt move me, or get my imagination running wild.
But maybe thats just me, maybe that feeling doesnt come back after a certain age.
But im not going to be too critical here as the film is working the same magic on other people. It is well acted and directed.
And the Animatronics of the Wild Things are first rate along with the Locations that were used.
One that you have to watch to make up your own mind.
I will probably watch it again with my Little Boy in a few years, when he is about 6 or 7

A beautiful family film which captures the book wonderfully.

My five year old daughter has always enjoyed having the book "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendark read to her as a bed time story. The boy who plays as nine year old Max is a great young actor and the Wild Things are really brought to life in great style from the excellent drawings in the book. The story is very strange and at times a bit on the dark side. When the film is finish you are left thinking was it real or just the boys imagination.
On the blu-ray disc there are some great special features about the film which are exclusive to blu-ray. It comes in most handy having a dvd copy of the film because your children can watch it in their bedroom or in the car if you have a dvd player set up in your car.

Too Melancholy for kids..Too rubbish for adults.

I watched this with an open mind. After watching the trailers, I thought it would be a whimsical adventure through a child's imagination. The child came across as irritating and uninteresting, rather than lonely and troubled. Consequently the world into which he escapes is a depressing bleak looking forest inhabited by mumbling, uninteresting creatures. Maybe that was the point, but it certainly wasn't entertaining. If that's the best my imagination could conjure when I was feeling down, I wouldn't have bothered growing up.

 Where'e The Remote Control?

60 seconds into this I was dying to strangle the kid, Yes, I'm aware he's troubled but I don't think I needed it rammed down my throat. Just keep a lid on it sunshine . The second problem I had was the absolutely dreadful "Wild Things". "Oh they're too scary for kids"! That may be so but I could barely contain my anger as to what exactly I was supposed o be watching. They were so unremarkable I can hardly remember anything about them other than how similar they appeared to the 70's kids show characters The Banana Splits. This then lead me to think about The Banana Splits and their music for the remainder of the film. Oh I tuned back in now and again, I got the general idea, but it was so painfully boring. The best way to describe it to somebody is to imagine yourself sitting in front of a swirling black hole thats slowly sucking the life from you. I've since read the book and that was even worse. If you're tempted to buy this I'd seriously recommend just watching The Sopranos because thats all you'll be thinking about when you hear James Gandolfini talk.

best film of 2009 and best bluray of 2010

Where The Wild Things, Are Not Really For Kids...

I was so looking forward to this movie since I saw the trailer and outstanding reviews. I ordered the U.S multi region Blu Ray and sat down with my 6 yr old daughter to get lost in a wonderful story.

We both really struggled with it. I found the kid unlikeable and the story a bit of a bore. The effects are outstanding and it looks fantastic. We just found the whole thing 'ok' and a watch once. I thought it was going to be a modern day 'Neverending Story' type film.

For me it's a film too dark for kids. It really is an adult fantasy movie. Even the added short movie 'Higglety Pigglety' is just as bizzare.

The Blu Ray transfer is outstanding along with the sound.

what a boring film,i can understand the charm in this film, its just stretched to boring point, being made as full length film, with only a very basic message and plot.
