I really liked mark wahlberg in this..he was great in planet of the apes remakle and had a very small part in departed, so it was good to see him in an action film like this, Isaw this at the cinema and it was briliant, I know some otehr people who thougth htis was brulliant too, I haven't played any max payne games infact I didn't jknow it was a fgame until I read the other reviews, persaolly I think maybe fans of the game were disapointed maybe because it was different fromt he game, but as a film I quite enjoyed it and Mark wahlberg was amazeing..great affects and I thought the stryline wasnt all that bad, and let's face it, its getting harder and harder for them to make a totally original storyline, good affects not a bad story line, great actor, so what more could you really want?....unless you wanted it to be a game instead lol..

Not as bad as it's been told. Script is rubbish but i liked this movie, thanks to it's great visuals. Sound and picture wise, this is the best you can get. Really top notch picture, including exellent shadow detail with no crush at all. And that LFE-channel really puts your subwoofer going.

Yet another lukewarm Big Screen adaption of a computer game, Max Payne nonetheless has it`s moments. Some of the visuals are quite striking on Blu-ray but can`t make up for the limp storyline and direction by the numbers.Beau Bridges phones in his performance, while Mark Wahlberg looks moody and grunts a lot. It`s shallow, derivative and totally unoriginal but has plenty of explosions, guns and good looking girls. If you don`t mind wasting precious time, check it out. Believe me, I have seen worse.

Where to start, well if youve never heard of Max Payne you might be able to add a star to the enjoyment as it is a pretty standard action fare yarn.

As a blu ray the transfer is crisp and sharp and some good audio, but the story, re written for the screen is painful. Pherhaps they were thinking wow we need to get a PG-13 rating or 12A from this so cant be as violent as we'd want... Or pherhaps the film noir voice overed game they didnt like and opted for something so usual.

I had high hopes but although I have enjoyed Mark Wahlberg movies in the past, 'Shooter' and 'the italian Job' and even 'three kings' he is dreadful cast as Max Payne, he cannot show that he has a tortured soul and is out for revenge. I mean his wife and daughtered have been murdered and you dont feel his pain (or Payne) at all just a serious look, no devastation, no tears.

There is only one use of bullet time slo-mo which featured heavily throughout the game and *possible spoiler* why fill the world with demons its just ridiculous.

Fan of the game you probably want to avoid to keep your Max Payne memories intact and not have them ruined by this movie. Not seen played the game and want an action blu-ray to blow away your HD system there are better films out there

Oh its only a 15 due to the featurette which is the strangest making of featurette I've ever seen. The director John Moore is ridiculous and you laugh at his self confidence and big finger to the producer.. Not worth owning the blu ray for the featurette though

As a fan of the games I had a curiosity to see this and also I quite like Mark Walberg as an actor.
However the film feels flat, it takes some elements from the games and creates a boring film. It could have been so good had they kept to the source material but unfortunately it just did not keep me interested.
The effects are okay and the Blu-ray quality isn't bad but I would not consider purchasing, renting was enough for me and I would not want to view for a second or third time.
A missed opportunity.
