I really didn't expect such a spectacular show in HD with DTS.I think it's a must buy not only for the iron fans but also for they who want to test thei HD monitor and sound.Hearing the "rime of the ancient mariner" brought tears in my eyes reminding me those years back in time.I can't describe anything more....
Deciding what to go for on my first Blu Ray pick was hard. I wanted something that wasn't a repeat of quite a large DVD collection between myself and my wife.
In the end I wanted to surprise her with something special and she's a huge Maiden fan, and I quite like their stuff too so decided on this. Left it in it's packaging for 2 days to tease her as we have been busy and finally opened it today and watched it.
Great rockumentary with unobtrusive but candid filming of the band that had us genuinley moved and also laughing out loud in so many places.
The band have picked 16 songs from 16 different countries on this amazing tour and alhough you only get to hear bits of them during the rockumentary, you get the full uncut Set List on the Blu Ray to watch afterwards. With such a long film (not overly - it flew by - excuse pun) we just hand picked a few favourites afterwards.
They really are a hard working band and you can tell they appreciate each other and the crew and it's all a big family affair.
My wife has met all of them apart from Adrian and Dave, and they all come accross in this exactly as when she met them. So you can tell it's genuine alright.
A fantastic watch even for non die hard fans such as myself, in fact even as a casual rock fan it's a great watch as you don't get to hear all the songs in their entirety so don't get bored. However if you are a fan then you'll be in heaven, especially with the full 16 songs after the rockumentary.
Superb visual and audio quality.
Superb booklet with diary style entries.
Just superb.
5 out of 5 from us. And well worth another watch easily.
One word.....Amazing. The quality of this Blu-ray is stunning, Audio and Video. And what else can i say, Maiden still ROCK after all these years, there is sooo much energy in these guys it puts me to shame, and im half their age.
Weather your new to Maiden, or a Die Hard fan like myself, you wont be dissapointed with Flight 666.
Brilliantly put together blu-ray. Great stories, great footage, great band! Have seen Maiden several time and whilst you could never fully capture the live experience this is closer than I would have imagined possible. A massively optimistic and ambitious tour with Bruce flying the band, crew and kit from country to country in the most awesome plane ever.
The cammerarderie of the band is heart warming. Their hard work, integrity and honesty is a lesson to every other rock band in the world. Rocking us since the early 80s Maiden are a band that have transcended generations. Long may they continue.
Iron Maiden on of the biggest selling metal bands in history came up with an idea to get a plane, fill it with all the bands gear and fly with singer Bruce Dickenson as pilot round the world.
Ok big tours have been done before but not like this, they travel to areas that not normaly get coverd on a world tour as they can be way to expensive and politacly challenging.
All plans were made and all venues booked, meanwhile film makers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn were asked to film the band when they are next in the studio. It was the film making duo who asked to document this tour as well they could see the potental of this film.
This is more than just a documetary of the first leg of the 2008 tour but a live concert as well. Plenty of music is included along with stage performances while shots of the band relaxing and going about the day to day routine of touring in this manor.
Interviews with the band and stage crew not always in a sit down and talk way but as the production is being done show a real open feeling to the film. Fans get a say in this as well with many shots of the fans getting a say to how much this means and by the look on the faces of them they do not lie.
Some of the shots of the Boeing 757 in flight are astounding to say the least. With the plane being given a maiden paint job and the blu ray gives these some crisp mouth dropping views of the plan in flight. This is so good i could not even think it would be done as well with CGI.
The sound is as expected crisp and fresh, great sound from Nico as well helps to make my room shake via my sub woofer. DTS HD, Dolby surround and stereo tracks cover all areas. For me the stereo is my choice but all sound great.
Meet the band in a new light and see the world as a music family on one two hour documentery. Then watch the show uncut after it. Yes you can see the concert all in one as well with the blu ray giveing this option on one disc.
