He fought his first battle on the Scottish Highlands in 1536. He will fight his greatest battle on the streets of New York City in 1986. His name is Connor McLeod. He is immortal.

Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert - Mortal Kombat, Subway) survives a wound that should kill him in a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536 and is banished from his village. Years later, McLeod is met by Juan Sanchez Vlla-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery - The Untouchables, The Hunt for Red October), a swordsman who teaches McLeod the truth about himself; he is immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser's power is absorbed into the winner. Ramirez teaches McLeod the ways of the sword, until he is killed by his gravest foe, the evil Kurgan (Clancy Brown - The Shawshank Redemption) who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, "The Prize"; enough power to rule the earth forever. McLeod must fight his way through the centuries until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains.

In New York City, the final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one.

Surely one of the best films ever made. Like a 90 minute music video with great casting, great fighting and superb villains. It really did blow the 80's brat pack films out of the water. Just don't mention the sequels.

 Amazing Transfer

Highlander is a minor classic. It was slaughtered on its release and has since gone on to cult status. The dvd releases never did the movie justice, the prints were terrible.

When the Blu was advertised my expectations were not high, but every now and then a studio does their product justice and this is one of those times.

Highlander is a prime example of what a studio can do when they put their mind to it.

This new transfer is brilliant! The colours are so bright and the image is detailed. yes, there is grain, (this was made on the cheap in the 80s so what do you expect) but it never spoils the image.

This is easily the best release of Highlander. If you are a fan of the movie then there is no choice but to upgrade.

Not that impressed by this format

i have to say the film is brilliant, the soundtrack awesome, but unfortunately the transfer to Bluray leaves me feeling flat. I was expecting more, maybe some digital enhancements, a bit cleaner sound.
You can still see the wires following the final fight scene.
I expected more quality in the bluray version, quite disapointed in the finish, probably not worth the money if you already have it on DVD.

 Great film but....

The last copy on dvd I purchased of this had a quality so bad it spoilt the experience of watching what is a fantastic film. I'm therefore doubtfull they'll have given it the polish up it deserves for HD, if they have another star can be added as the film itself is great with a soundtrack that'll stick in the memory forever thanks to Queen.

Highlander: Special Edition - Limited Edition Steelbook

I have just watched Highlander on Blu Ray and i have to say this is amazing. It looks mostly like film. It's like being at the cinema for the first time. All the original lines of dialogue are intact in this edition which also means the wires at the end of the movie are visible but thats a small price to pay for getting the original untouched edition.

Fantastic movie and visually this was always a movie which had grain in it. People need to realise some movies are shot with different film stock and this is one of them thus some scenes will look very clean and some shots will look grainy. You need to preserve the grain to preserve the detail. This is pure high definition and a fantastic image quality. I wish more studio's released films untouched and without "enhancements" Those enhancements usually mean adding DNR and edge enhancement to high definition titles and really HD does not need enhancement. I like the approach made for this movies transfer to Blu Ray which was the film has already been made so lets reproduce it and reproduce it they did.

I highly recommend this for all true film fans who can appreciate quality and know about cinematography and different film stocks and especially for those who know that grain is in fact part of the film stock and should be preserved. Fantastic job.
