This was an excellent movie. A great remake from the original in 2002. I am a fan of Nicolas cage. And this movie is just another reason why. He was once again as usual superb. Made the film from good to great. Also Jay Baruchel .. and very unknown actor did an outstanding job. And deserved of much credit for this film working.
As a whole it was put together in a great fashion for all the family to enjoy, with laughs, good action scenes and things that just made you go WOW im giving this a 4/5 and definitely recommending this for all the family.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimers name above the film's title used to be pretty much a guarantee that I was gonna enjoy whatever was on offer (Beverly Hills Cop, Bad Boys, The Rock, Enemy of the State, Con Air, Armageddon, Crimson Tide, Gone in 60 Seconds, Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2, National Treasure 1).
But of late that Guarantee doesn't seem to be as consistent as before ( Bad Boys 2, Deja Vu, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Prince of Persia, National Treasure 2) and now this half baked Special Effects Action Fantasy with his fave Lead Actor Nicolas Cage.
The Movie is a disappointment from the word GO, the characters and the Story didnt engage me, I didnt care about either.
Sure it looks slick, and the effects are all spot on, but it just lacked that extra touch, that pulls you into the movie.
Acting was ok, Nicolas Cage looked cool in his get up, Alfred Molina was much better in a similar role in Spiderman 2, the rest of the cast was so so.
Come on Mr Bruckheimer, stop playing it so safe with the family crowd, get back to OTT Action Spectacles like Con Air, The Rock and Armageddon.
Watched this again, enjoyable film and now I have a new full HD tv and Av system it was well worth the bucks.
Great fun for all the family from the Disney crew. With good casting but Nicholas Cage stands from all of them as the good Balthazar Blake. But what good is a hero without a nemisis which is played very well by Alfred Molina who are both Merlin's apprentices. It is set in the present day where Cage is looking for the sorcerer who will take control of Merlin's dragon ring. And he finds Jay Baruchel, he now has to learn the skills to become the next greatest sorcerer and stop the evil Morgana.
Got to say I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Like Mr Cage and liked this tale of magic and sorcerey a great deal. Well worth a watch if not a sneaky purchase even! Good fun!
