Directed by Ruben Fleischer, in his feature-length film debut, Zombieland is a Shaun Of The Dead-inspired comedy road movie starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg as two survivors of a zombie apocalypse thrown together in an unlikely but highly amusing partnership. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg - The Squid And The Whale), with his zombie survival guide in-hand, has only survived this long because he's so afraid of everyone and everything. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson - 2012) means to take down as many zombies as he can on his obsessional quest for Twinkies. When a chance encounter leads the two to form a partnership, little do they realise it will take them on the post-apocalyptic adventure to end them all. With mischievous female double-act Wichita and Little Rock on the scene and millions of walking dead shuffling the great expanse of the US, things are never dull in Zombieland!

Play.com Review

Combining the best bits of horror comedy with elements of the classic buddy movie setup, Zombieland is one of the most refreshing movies in a long while, and the most successful undead flick at the box office.

Originally conceived as a TV show - the movie was to be the pilot - Zombieland is brilliantly funny from the get-go - the opening credit sequence backed by Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is worth the price of the Blu-ray alone. Whilst Columbus' 33 rules for zombie survival provide some crafty setups and witty visual punch lines, it's Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee who steals the show with a smattering of Deliverance nods ("You've got a purty mouth") and some wonderfully OTT moments - he just loves taking out those zombies! The introduction of Witchita (Emma Stone - Superbad) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin - Little Miss Sunshine) injects some much-needed femininity to proceedings, but they're no shrinking violets, oh no.

Despite all the gore and comedy, the film often finds time for more touching scenes, although it's never afraid to throw in absurdly humorous complications (as witnessed when they descend upon a certain film star's LA mansion) to spice things up. Accompanied by an awesome soundtrack collecting tracks including Raconteurs' "Salute Your Solution", Band Of Horses' "No One's Gonna Love You", and Velvet Underground's "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'", the music choices are just as imaginative as the movie itself. Definitely a contender for the best movie of 2009 with Moon and District 9, we could go on about it all day, but we're running out of space. As Tallahassee himself says at one point, channelling the spirit of Babe, "That'll be all, pig."

This was a very good zombie film proof that horror films actually can be quite funny.

It has been well thought out. The acting along with the somewhat witty dialogue and overall notion in the zombie tradition makes Zombieland in my opinion one of the best horror-comedies of all time.

Recommend 5/5!!

One of the most fun films of 2009, very funny and highly entertaining! This is without doubt one of the best horror-zombie-comedies ever made, the cast was pretty cool, Woody Harrelson was funny it's probably his best role in years! The dialogue was very good and well formulated. There are a couple of interesting cameos too from Amber Heard and Bill Murray. Great fun all-round with a string of mishap adventures in a world overrun by the living dead, some cool gore thrown in too. Worth a watch for sure!

Based on the game, Left 4 Dead, this is a fun zombie film. They changed it a fair bit, but it's still packed with little gems from the game, and you even get to see your favourite weapons, such as the Benelli M104. It's not the best zombie movie, by far, but its great entertainment and is really a must for L4D fans.

Best Zombie comedy for a long time...if you thought Shaun of the Dead was good, then this is a must have - easily twice as funny

One of the greatest zombie films of all time...

While many call Zombieland a Shaun of the Dead knock-off, I believe this is not the case. While they are both zom-coms, which, I will admit, is a very rarely used genre, the similarities end there.

Shaun of the Dead is actively a spoof of zombie films, poking fun at zombie apocalypses while keeping the action silly and slapstick. Zombieland on the other hand, often has both poignant and serious scenes.

Zombieland has a fantastic cast - the very likable Jesse Eisenberg shines as usual, and his friendships with the 3 other survivors are very genuine. Woody Harrelson is perfectly cast, as is Emma Stone as the beautiful, mysterious Wichita.

Overall, while this may have come after Shaun of the Dead, it does not try to copy in any way. Although not as funny as Shaun, because of its likable cast and brilliantly shot action scenes, Zombieland is the film I find myself coming back to when in the mood for a Zombie comedy.
