If you are a child of the 80s then you will love this film, theres no C.G.I zombies or chiniese ghosts with long black hair, its good old fasioned horror, a big old creepy house and twisted music, its what you dont see that scares you for the first half and some amiytville horror for the second half, its got no cheesey blondes running around with boobs out, you really dont want the characters to get killed, its a winner for me

  terrible

I love these types of movies but this is just far fetched and only resembles about 10% of what actually happened in real life as its based on a true story,go watch the documentary on what really happened its far better than watching this rubbish.

  Another haunted house movie.

I thought Kyle Gallner was great. Other performances not so great. Koteas reminded me of De Niro (though hes completely different as Abel Campos in The Fourth Kind). There are comparisons to Amityville Horror. There are lots of horror cliches.

Sometimes creepy but never scary - its still a decent haunted house story.

  Not very entertaining

I was hoping for so much more, this fim is a collection of moments that are jumpy to simply stupid. The ending of the film gets so outlandish, it becomes hard to take any of it seriously so it all ends up going off the rails. A very disapointing film overall. I would not recommend this one as a horror to anyone. It's more a failry poor drama, there I would leave it.

I have to agree with another reviewer on this one 100%. The trailer played out a wholely terrifying movie that was set to have you checking the dark corners of the room when you thought no one else is watching you..... the reality is I went and put the kettle on as the boredom crept in. One or two jumps at best, an early promise at a suspensful build up blown out of the water by hammy super gore effects that if really did represent a real life experience would have left the witnesses as drooling, incoherent blobs for the rest of their lives, certainly not cashing in on their apparent misfortune. I was more scared by Kerry Katonas last good morning interview than by this movie. It's worth a watch but just scraped 3 stars for me as it was reasonably well acted and put together. Shame as it had some promise, the true life story etc, but it failed to deliver, as usual for the super hyped horror...... roll on drag me to hell.....

More of a drama than a horror...

Real life stories always intrigue me, and it was the same with this movie. This was an ok movie to watch but not brilliant. What surprised me is horrors i enjoy get great reviews while not so scary horrors get raving reviews. I did not find this movie scary, apart from a few jumpy moments, however the film had a solid story that kept me watching from beginning to finish. This is not to say that you wont find it scary because a few of my friends did. It is definately worth a watch but not something id buy.

The best true story horror haunting film!

Wow i am not a huge fan of horror movies and even films like the evil dead and nightmare on elm street failed to scare me, however i like true stories whether it's horror or not so decided to purchase this movie, I have other true story horror movies like the entity, an american haunting, The exorcism of emily rose but for me this is the best true life horror haunting movie ever and what surprised me is that this movie was only given a 15 certificate.

this is truly a chilling tale the likes of which is rarely seen with this type of movie.
a family move to a house in 'connecticut' a rental arrangement to be close to the hospital treating the oldest son for cancer.
the son is the first to be aware of strange happenings within the house seeing violent images.
the 'haunting's' become more intense as the film progresses, the other members of the family quickly realize that the images didn't just belong to their siblings imagination.
there are many quick-fire flashes of horror to make you pay attention to this chiller.
a superior presentation which is based on the 'campbell familys' real life expierience at this house of 'secrets'
