Solomon Kane is the long-awaited big screen debut of Robert E. Howard's puritanical protagonist who wanders the land seeking redemption. Starring James Purefoy ('Rome') as the titular hero, this spectacular action fantasy from the director of 'Deathwatch' is so good you'll pray it never ends!

As a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth I fighting in Africa, Solomon Kane encounters a demon and realises he must seek redemption or have his soul condemned to hell. He returns to England and lives a life of peace but soon the doings of an evil sorcerer upset his plans and he must take up arms again. Based on the pulp magazine character created in 1928 by Robert E Howard.

 Shocking

I saw this on release date at the Cinema.. Honestly, i got bored and laughed at its pathetic attempt to create a believeable fantasy film. Acting was bland (except for Pete Postlethwaite as usual), story was non existant and fight screens were very poor. If you want a decent low budget fantasy film, watch Centurion. If you want to waste two hours of your life that you will never get back, by all means, watch this.

 Must have for fans

I saw this at the cinema an really enjoyed it . But i would because i love all of Robert.E.Howards work . It does take a little while to get into the story and for him to become the Kane we all love but its worth the wait .I wouldnt really recomend this to someone that doesnt allready know Kane as you maybe wont get it or appreciate it as much as a fan might . I dont think this movie is a great introduction to the character but if you like the Kane books and comics then its nice to see him come to life in this movie . I did always imagine him to be taller though lol

 Dark Fantasy

A man's quest for redemption leads him to using all his deadly skills to redeem himself. This is quite a nice movie, and I enjoyed Purefoy's performance as the character of Kane went through various aspects of change during the story. For my taste it got a bit too monster & special effects reliant as it went on, detracting from the more actually sinister first half. However I understand this was probably the nature of the original source material. If you enjoy fantasy movies then I feel this is well worth watching, just not the film it could have been (should have tightened up climatic scenes with better swordfights and less monsters, focussed more on Kane rather than random helpers).

 REALLY ENJOYABLE

I watched this film on the back of a few solid reviews i had read on it as i had never really heard of it before this.
I for one found this medi evil film to be quite good fun, It is a tad slow to begin with after the opening 5 minutes have passed and the film seems to plod along for half an hour until the action returns.
The action scenes are good they are quite bloody and gruesome as well.
The lead role of Solomon Kane is played by James Purefoy of Rome fame i had never seen him before as i am not a fan of Rome but thought he put in a solid performance in the titular role and carried the film well.
As a few other reviews have said the film does seem a tad choppy which makes you wonder if this film has been cut down to fit in with studio bosses over run time and i would like to see a full directors cut version in the future.
In closing if your a fan of medi evil films then this is for you it has a feel of a grown ups version of Willow and Legend.

 Interspersent predictability, but still great

OK so it is a little predictable at times, but we forgave it for the action scenes and the fact that the effects were really quite well done. Its kind of like Van Helsing but for adults, the fights are quite graphic but in line with the story, not just there for the sake of it. We really enjoyed watching this and I will watch again very soon. My only gripe is that I wish it had been a little bit longer because we didnt want it to finish! Well worth watching, a rip-roaring 5 stars!
