Bond is back!

Back to the beginning of James Bond's career, MI6's newest recruit (Daniel Craig) is tasked with taking down a man known as "Le Chiffre" (Mads Mikkelsen), a money launderer for terrorists who is raising operational funds at a high-stakes poker game in the exclusive Montenegro establishment of Casino Royale...

Exhilarating, breathless and at times brutal, this is the first Bond adventure since 1987 to be based on one of Ian Fleming's original novels. Paul Haggis (Oscar winning writer/director of Crash) adapts Casino Royale for a new generation as Daniel Craig, new Aston Martin DBS in tow, fills out the tuxedo of the ultra-smooth and ultra-deadly superspy.

That's the good news, the dialogue is cracking and the plot is pretty much a modernized version of the book. The only downside is that by going back to a grittier Bond with all his brutal close quarter fighting, we lose a certain sense of spectacle. Even if the point was to get rid of the gadgets, we also lose the really big set pieces - essentially you get a lot of running around and a couple of explosions. Despite 'Die Another Day' being considered by many to be the worst Bond movie, at least it had a suitably big ending. Here it's all low key, and although it is very good, I have to knock off a star for the lack of invention in the action stakes.

 Bond re-bourne!

This was the movie that bond had to be in order to keep the on-coming threat of coolest spy around slipping to The Bourne series, this movie is a fresh departure from the overblown and sometimes ridiculousness of previous incarnetions.
What we have is a Bond that bleeds, a Bond that struggles and a Bond that mourns?!?!?!?
As moneypenny may very well say, "welcome home James"

It was a good film- for a Bond film
If you love Bond you will love this film, if not you will wander what all the fuss is about.
I am not a Bond fan but i did enjoy watching the film, i think i was let down because of the high expectations all the reviews had given me.
Worth a watch all the same.

Everyone keeps saying that james bond has stolen ideas from the 'bourne' franchise, how could it?bond was first!
Daniel craig is good as bond(but he's no sean connery), the story is fantastic and the setpieces are breathtaking and eva green is a hot bond girl.good comeback for james bond

Ok first off the James Bond character, is tall dark and handsome, just like me. Sadly Daniel Craig is blonde with blue eyes and does not look the part of a bond.

When he was walking into the casino, it was like spot the ball if you had never seen bond or didnt know who Daniel Craig was, then you wouldn't pick him out from the crowd.

The start of the film is excellent with the free running sequences and does give it a modern feel due to the hype of it. Personally I think the black and white bit, ok told the start of the James Bond saga, but so did the old David Niven Casino Royale.

People mention that it is griiter than any other bond film before, and I suppose in respects it is, and someone else has likened it to Jason Bourne.

Bond is Bond, not Bourne, Bond is shaken not stirred, but he was in this, but I suppose as it's really the first bond film, then he would be a rookie, but it just does not tie in with the other bond characters and does a disjustice to Connery, Brosnian and the rest.

I didn't like Brosnian or the first film he made, but after watching it a few times, it was very good and what bond should be about.

If this was an action film only, then it would have been a 4 star, because it's the death of bond, only a 3 star rating.

For this price though, it's superb entertainment.
