No stunt doubles, no computer images, no strings attached!

When the head of a statue sacred to a village is stolen, a dutiful but endearingly naive young martial artist is charged to go to the big city and finds himself taking on the underworld to retrieve it...

Having drawn incredible comparisons to Bruce Lee and an early Jackie Chan, Thai sensation, Tony Jaa, bursts onto the scene! Amazingly athletic, not to mention charismatic, Tony Jaa refuses to countenance the use of props (yes, that's real glass, barbed wire and metal spikes!), wire enhancement and faked blows. What full contact you see is most definitely what you get!

Added to this is a gleefully choreographed chase on the highways of Bangkok involving a fleet of tuk-tuk vehicles (the three-wheeled taxi iconic to Thailand), knowing location photography (visitors to the capital will recognise Khao San Road and the exterior of top nightclub hangout Suzy's Pub) and, most of all, an affecting story of one man's struggle to uphold village traditions against Western modernisation.

This was a serious game changer in martial arts movies when it was released, nothing had been around like this, Tony Jaa really stepped up the game by giving us 100% genuine fighting and amazing martial art skills unseen before all with no help of wires or effects, Ong Bak is bone crunching awesome, full of amazing stunts and fight scenes that are breathtaking and very cool, this is a cult classic martial arts movie now and spawned so many movies taking on this style. A must for any fan. Jaa is a class act, dont forget to check out the awesome Warrior King.

 Muay Thai at its best!!

This film has a plot that is a little bit thin but dont let that detract from what this film is really all about, Tony Jaa is a master in his art and deserves as much noteriety as Jackie Chan. He has the heart of a lion and fights like one too! I was heard shouting WOH! when I saw his fight scenes as like the late great Bruce Lee he truly is stunning in is art. In summary great film, superb fights and im really glad I purchased it!

 Brilliant!

Very good acting in this, considering the stunts were all done by Tony Jaa. The fighting is great also. One to get if your into martial arts or even action films.

No weapons, no strings, no equal - except for jackie chan

Tony Jaa shocked me. Really did. I love Jackie Chan's movies, and love the fact he does his own stunts - i never thought there'd be anyone to replace him (other than Sammo Hung or Yung Biao). Then i watch this and i am blown away.
Tony Jaa does his own stunts and the action is awesome. Ok the story is flimsy but plausable, but its the action and stunts you'll remember. Story is about someone who stole the head of Buddha (or something) and Jaa goes to the city to get it back. he then beats everyone up and takes it back, before his town is in ruins coz the head helps with the crops - somehow...i dont know
There arent many Thai films or Muay Thai films, and Kickboxer was a poor example of Muay Thai (and you'll see why with Ong Bak). So this is a really good movie to show the beauty of Muay Thai and its devasting power.
I would have liked more from the story, but for his first staring role, it was good.

Tony Jaa and Mark Dascascos are two martial artists which i dont feel have been recognised world wide, and i think Ong Bak will change that - for Tony Jaa that is.
