A nuclear explosion in outer space has freed rebel General Zod and his evil cohorts from their captivity in a fragment of Kryptonite. Having been banished from Krypton for their treachery against Jor-El they now plot revenge on his son - Superman. Arch villain Lex Luthor offers his services to Zod. This has both version of Superman 2, The first is the Richard Lester cinema released version, and the second disc contains the scrapped Richard Donner version.
The Donner version was reshot by Lester due to a falling out with the produces, but is a worthy watch as the film tone is much darker, some of the scenes have been recreated via screen test shots, and the continuety is slightly off, but it's a interesting watch.
Richard Lester's cinema version is as we all know it, and is a fantastic comic book movie and a hell of alot of fun
Superman II has more action than the previouse film, but is less satifying as it seems to have lost it's emotional core.
But as a rousing conclusion to the story set up in part one it is a powerhose of unadulerated fun.
If you have already bought Superman 1 and wonder what version of SupermanII to buy, this is the package to buy as the unseen Richard Donner version is fantastic value and a must see.
Excellent movies, excellent exra features, Super value.

I stumbled upon the Richard Donner cut by pure chance & when I found out there was a different version to my all time favourite childhood movie, I had to get my hands on it. Wow....this film is very different from the released 'Lester' version, its continuity from the first movie is much more apparent in both the opening scenes & the end scenes. It's truly a delight to see the movie as it was originally intended. The chemistry between Luthor & Otis is hilarious! And Ursas' hated of males is seen more in the Donner cut. I loved the unseen footage which kept me gripped right up to the credits! A must have for any Superman fan!

Best of all the Superman films

As pointed out already, this product includes the Richard Lester version which is the one released at the cinema back in 1980/1981 (depending on which country you're in!), plus the reconstructed Richard Donner version which is how the film was originally meant to be.
Now, taking the Lester version, I have to say I absolutely loved this film. I was 16 when it came out, and now at 43 it's still my second favourite film of all time (after The Quiet Man) for sheer entertainment and nostalgia value. This is probably only one of two or three films I actually wanted to applaud at the end in the cinema, it's that good!
It's entertainment and fun from start to finish, with one of the best villains of all time in Terence Stamp's portrayal of General Zod.
Regarding the Donner version, well, the basic story-line is much the same. It's very interesting to see the variations, though. However, because Lester's version is the one I've loved all these years, I'd give it my vote over Donner's.. Buy this for some terrific entertainment!
