Scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) has, to put it mildly, anger management issues. His quiet life as a brilliant researcher working with cutting edge genetic technology conceals a nearly forgotten and painful past. His ex-girlfriend and equally brilliant fellow researcher, Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), has tired of Bruce's cordoned off emotional terrain and resigns herself to remaining an interested onlooker to his quiet life. Which is exactly where Betty finds herself during one of the early trials in Banner's groundbreaking research. A simple oversight leads to an explosive situation and Bruce makes a split-second decision; his heroic impulse saves a life and leaves him apparently unscathed-his body absorbing a normally deadly dose of gamma radiation.

Acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker Ang Lee turns his masterful eye to adapting the classic Marvel Comics character for the big screen. Setting out to faithfully transfer the Hulk comic book character from four-color paneled page to motion picture screen, Lee combines all the elements of a blockbuster visual effects-intensive superhero movie with the brooding romance and tragedy of Universal's classic horror films. Staying true to the early subversive spirit of the Hulk as envisioned by its creators (Stan Lee and Jack Kirby) while also tuning the tale to current dangerous times, Lee presents a portrait of a man at war with himself and the world, both a superhero and a monster, a means of wish fulfillment and a nightmare...

A comic book movie for adults

Lots of bad press about this film, however, look closely and you'll find an excellent tale of human emotion, like a modern day Jekyll and Hyde, Ang Lee's tale plays out like an extended origin story. No, not a lot of The Hulk himself, but the acting and script are superb - and when the old jolly green giant does appear, the CGI is very good. "What's with the jumping?" everyone cried about this film - weeeellllll as a reader of Hulk comics when I was a kid, let me tel you.......he jumps......a lot!
Eric Bana is fantastic as Bruce Banner, the only sad thing is that he won't be back for the new film, but as Edward Norton is stepping into his shoes, I won't worry - look, enjoy this film for what it is, an intelligent drama. With a big green monster in it!

To long and not enough HULK

Takes the form of a wounded behemoth, battling to negotiate a compromise between a strong artistic vision and franchise expectations. It doesn't fully succeed on either count, but its integrity and substance stand out like an oasis in a field of cotton candy.

 A film of two sides

The Incredible Hype for the Hulk, I think, was it's biggest downfull. People were expecting something with a lot more action. Rest assurd there are some great sequences - Hulk smashing tanks, Hulk wrecking San Francisco, Hulk smacking Hulk-Dogs. But The Hulk was always more than just a great green monster that destroyed things and Ang Lee taps into that exploring history and element that makes Bruce Banner and his rage fuelled alter-ego who they are. The cast is great and the special effects are some of ILM's best.
Personally I think that this is one of the better comic book movies out there and well desrves a second chance so long as you are ready to put aside any massive expectations (and excuse the Hulk-Dogs). Otherwise I advise you to find another movie that will satisfy your action appertite.

It is good but there somthing not right

I love the hulk, he is an amazing marvil charactor but the point is that in the film when one screen was on they brought another on at the same time and it's not right. I just don't watch it no more.

 Don't make me angry...

Why does everyone hate the Hulk so much? Personally, I found much to admire about Ang Lee's vision - a superb CGI realisation of the green giant himself, some good (if limited) action and a unique visual style that, if nothing else, makes this a real 'comic-book' movie. I would also argue with the complaint that there's not enough Hulk moments...some of us quite like to focus on character and story and besides, this is an origin story. On the downside, Nick Nolte, whilst good, adds a bit to much to a slightly overcooked ending. But Bana himself is perfect in the role and I'm dubious, though interested, to see how Edward Norton can fill his shoes in the sequel...
