In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and, with the help of trusted butler Alfred (a scene-stealing Michael Caine) unveils his alter-ego: Batman is a masked crusader who will use strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city...

Director Christopher Nolan deliberately exorcises the camp and grand guignol of the previous movies and TV series. This is truly a gritty and brooding exploration of the beginnings of the Dark Knight, a faithful vision of Bob Kane's anti-hero from DC Comics.

This is how Batman should be done , was never a big fan of the others from the 80's and 90's but thankfuly its been given a much needed re-vamp and is floorless.

In preparation for the Dark Knight, I had to re-watch this movie, and to be honest I forgot how good it was. These movies re-invent the Batman in a much more realistic and plausible way than the orginal 90's movies. The really changes the way you feel about the character and the setting, it changes from being a comic book adaptation in an over the top Gotham, unbelievable gadgets and unbelievable villians to something that with a little bit of imagination may actually be happening around us. This sets up the history of Batman, and how he turns into the Dark Knight, with believable explainations on his skills, gadgets, costumes, money and alike. This is a perfect start to what I hope turns out to be an excellent series of movies. Well directed, well acted with good (and not obviously CGI) effects.

 pretty boring

I found this film pretty boring on the whole. The villain called the scarecrow is on par with mr freeze as being the most pointless villain in all the batman films!Christian bale is alright as batman, but i still prefer michael keaton.

i guess this is the movie a lot of batman fans have been waiting for... since a long time. it all started pretty well with batman and batman returns, but after that the level got slowly bad, and ended up with more special effects and freaky/crazy characters than plot or story or passion. it looked like it had become a merchandisingproject more than a movieproject.
batman begins puts an end to all that: this movie has a more serious character, a real dark atmosphere, more story and less action (although still enough to keep you going, and certainly more complementary to the story)... and therefore is more convincing, and more intriguing. batman IS batman instead of some weird suit flying around.
knowing that 'the dark knight' will also be directed by christopher nolan makes that movie very promising.
