More of a sequel and homage to the 1971 original, Samuel L Jackson fits the role like a smooth velvet glove. His Shaft is the nephew of the original Richard Rountree Shaft, who appears in this version. Excellent support from Christian Bale.
Same score, same attitude, still supercool and still hard as nails. Buy both versions and watch them in order.
I knew the re-make of 'Shaft' wasn't going to be a Oscar-worthy film so I just decided to watch it as it is. I'm so glad I did just that.
Samuel L. Jackson is brutal and hilarious as John Shaft but it's Christian Bale that steals the shows as the slimy, racist killer Walter Wade Jr.
Busta Rhymes is also just grand as Rasaan.
John Singleton, writer/producer/director of this film has captured Shaft in a newer, more-'conventional' way of an African American in New York, making this film easier for the audience to relate to and enjoy.
The plot is thin but this film isn't supposed to be analysed, just watched and have a laugh about.
If you want 100 minutes of adrenaline and action then this is a film for you.
Samuel L. Jackson plays 'out of the box thinker' cop John Shaft in this amazing thriller. Excellent action film, similar story line to many but the execution is brilliant! Acting is great as always from Jackson.
