Robocop Trilogy Box Set

Great film Robocop. I remember when i first watched it, aged eight. My older brother had rented it with his mates, i remember he dragged me into the front room when mum was out and showed me ED209 blowing that executive to bits.

I was shaken, i was disturbed. Before my brother took it back, i watched it from start to finish with my mates, and the next day we were running around the playground playing robocop, blowing limbs off, stealing, play smoking, swearing. But thats the appeal to kids, the ultraviolence.

Having grown, i now look back at the film with a fresh eye, and it hasn't dated. The look is good, the atmosphere of a decaying city struggling to become something it never will, the witty screenplay, the adverts and news reports setting the pace.

Robocop works on so many levels that it will always be right up there in my top 20 films of all time. Which is why i give this boxset a 4* rating. Robocop is a 5* movie, 2 and 3 on the other hand arent.

Its the same old story of cashing in on sequels that get progressively worst, the third a damn site milder as they now try to cash in on teenage market having realised that the biggest fanbase this movie has is not the sci-fi buffs, but the kids, hence the TV series, hence the Cartoon, hence the toys.

But having said that, to have all three in a box set at such a great price is worth it, even if it is to only own the first one really.

Detroit cop Alex Murphy is murdered on this first day at a new station and his remains are turned into Robocop, the future of law enforcement. Who could not like this film or its squeal they're awesome. The 3rd one wasn't has good and Peter Weller didn't reprise his role, only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. Good buy for £12.99 recommended but dethontly not for kids

The five star review is for the original Robocop movie not the two sequels. Robocop the directors cut is awesome and for this price worth buying the box set for. The new cut of the film is extremely violent and nasty in every way, loads of classic action and the story is great, worth every penny. If you do watch the two diabolical sequels then don't expect them to be half as good. Robocop 2 gets about three stars for violence and action, but has a stupid story. Robocop 3 gets one star for being so low budget; the effects are so bad and extremely cheap.

The comic book violence and cutting satire was fresh and darkly funny. The effects were amazing, and the creation of RoboCop wowed everbody! The film was a massive success and spawned two poor sequels and a very toned down TV series,But does the original movie stand the test of time?
ROBOCOP 1987
This disc has the uncut version of the movie, deemed too violent 20 years ago, and this is the version to watch in it's blood splatterd glory. Arms, Bodies, Heads explode without being cut by the stupid cencorship of 1987.
At time of it's cinema release the stop motion effects were Jaw dropping, now they seem a little shabby, but the film is still a classic and stands the test of time very well.

With the film being directed by the director of The Empire Strikes Back and written by comic book legend Frank Miller, how could this movie fail?
It does fail, allot has to do with the stop motion effects, back in 1990 the stop-motion effects were looking a little dated, but now they look awful, and with the final 20 minutes of the movie being devoted to a stop-motion show down, it does look very amature, but this was still before the days of CGI overkill. But it's the script that lets the film down more than anything, the biting satire of the original is replaced by dull in-jokes. The simple drug lord turned into the new psycho Robocop is shallow. A huge dissapointment!

This is a insult to the original, and even worse than the dissapointing first sequel. Gone is the ultra-violence and in is the new kid friendly approach. The film lacks anything approaching the original's greatness and seems more like a TV movie. This film actually sat in limbo for two years before getting the cinema release, they should have not bothered, as this film has direct to video written all over it!
Robocop even has a jet pack , and has to fight with Robo-Ninja's this time.
The film was poor on it's cinema release, now it's just pathetic. It Feels like a poor episode of Power Ranges, than a second sequel to a Sci-Fi classic.

Only the original movie stands the test of time, The second is not terrible but is a huge disappointment. As for the third entry, I suggest you don't bother watching it, and use it a drinks Mat!
I still recommend you by the trilogy, just to relive the first movies glory. But this should have been a five Star trilogy.
